most restaurants try to do a single cuisine and if they are lucky they do it well. panama hatty’s is the complete opposite, their menu is extensive with dishes ranging from mexico to malaysia and everything in between! seb sand i were out shopping this weekend, and after a lot of deliberation concluded that we had no idea what we wanted to do for lunch.  when you don’t know what cuisine you want, there is nothing better than lunch at panama hatty’s – there is something for everybody! so we decided to head to this little crowd pleaser and see what the restaurant had to offer. panama hatty’s is tucked away just off the exclusive upper part of kings street next to some fairly well-heeled neighbours including armani, vivienne westwood and agent provocateur. it’s quite easy to miss this basement restaurant – you are more likely to notice the mannequins at the agent provocateur designer store above it but i think  this works in panama hatty’s favour. you walk down the stairs into a fairly we

roasted ribs with barbecue sauce was not really an easy bite. the sauce was overdone which ruined the taste of ribs, the staff was kind enough to change the dish but the replaced dish wasn’t really good enough. the staff and service inclinations did live up though.

i needed something to fill my belly that wasn’t put there by a face hugger. we chose a mexican restaurant in manchester called panama hatty’s. i love mexican food even more than pina coladas and getting caught in the rain. we’ve been a few times before and it’s always been a crowd pleaser. to begin i ordered a tennessee ice tea, long island’s long lost cousin who has a thing for jack daniels. this was lovely. some people drink cocktails because they don’t like the taste of alcohol; this is not true of me. i love a boozy drink; it makes me want to go tap dancing. i have no tap dancing skill, but give me a pair of kitten heals and a wooden floor and i’d give it a go. especially after a few of these. to begin, my four companions decided to share the tasting platter. how mean! i was to be excluded at the meal i had organised. i hatched a plan to steal as much of this as i could, af

afternoon lunch. just popped in after a friend's recommendation, was pleasantly surprised. we both had the burgers. both excellent, service relaxed and friendly. it shouldn't be hard to get a quick, reasonably priced lunch but many places make a right song and dance about it. fries and a burger is not rocket science but so many get it wrong. frankie & bennie's for instance!

the day i went it was sadly empty - just one other couple, in this basement restaurant. not eating mexican much we decided to order a platter to share followed by burgers accompanied by cocktails (me) and a variety of ales (the boyfriend). big mistake!

the platter was huge and incredibly well prepared. we enjoyed it immensely although we were surprised by the size, the burgers just increased our realisation we had made a mistake yet we valiantly managed to finish most of it. a nicer meat mix then that of gbk we have been back several times and each time we have enjoyed the cosy atmosphere, attentive staff and delicious food.

in fact i think i might go back this weekend
