palm court jazz café

went down for dinner last night. restaurant was closed. can i rate it incomplete?

best place in nola for dinner & jazz!. the palm court is a really great music venue, where you can have a comfortable sit down dinner.

we've been here many times, and the musicians are always great. the room is bright, airy, comfortable and friendly . . . and also has great acoustics (and it's not a coincidence, just look at the ceiling and you can tell they built this room for live music).

it is absolutely the best venue in the french quarter to hear live traditional new orleans jazz and have a comfortable meal.

as to the food. the good - the service is always friendly and good. the tables are comfortable. the food itself can best be described as adequate - it's not bad, but it certainly is not exceptionally good. with the exception of the fruit dessert, which is a puréed chilled cantaloupe soup with bananas, grapes and strawberries - healthy, tasty and refreshing!

place is wonderful. live music, waitstaff wonderul, entertaining and very helpful. food very good. been to nola several times this is always a place to come and feel like a local.

wonderful atmosphere for listening to real jazz, food was good, will reccommend to friends.

great jazz, great scene, ave. food. fantastic jazz. not tourist jazz. the real deal. old school, like preservation hall, but alot more upbeat and fun.

you could spend all night looking at the vintage jazz photos and albums on the wall.

great service. and nina buck (in her 70s?) is still dancing, talking, mcing all night. love this place.

weakest part is the food. very interesting sounding menu. and i cleaned my plate. but food was (by high nola standards) very average, even bland. the shrimp pasta was not spicy enough, kind of soupy, and the shrimp were average sized ($18 in '10). my extra thick pork chop was fine, came in a bland sauce with average massed potatoes ($19). the best part were really tasty mushrooms. bread pudding was spicy, not bad ($6).

we went here for nye. the jazz was great, but the food and service was not impressive. definitely not worth the cost for the event.
