my evening hangout. i live a couple blocks up from pai men miyake, and maybe i'm easy to please, but i find it wonderful. i'm usually there on thursday evenings after 9, and everything i have tried off the menu is flavorful and satisfying. it's a little pricey for me, but that's mainly because i'm a nearly broke struggler.
this is your restaurant if you like pork. the smell of the pork fat is what makes me feel at home when i walk in, and it adds absolute succulence to everything it's in. if you don't like meaty, hearty flavors, i don't know what to tell you; maybe there are lighter options on the menu, but i have no interest in them. the beer selection is quite nice, too, if a little pricey - once again, i'm nearly broke.
a lot of these reviews are complaining about poor service; i dunno what you're talking about. every member of the staff i've seen has been cheerful, friendly, and prompt. ryan, one of the chefs i usually see, is one of the hardest working dudes i've ever met, and generous to boot. all the bartendresses and wait staff are funny and helpful - more than willing to indulge me when i ask them to pick me a random beer for the evening.
you never know what music you're gonna hear there; sometimes it's desert rock drone metal, sometimes you're gonna hear beyonce, sometimes it's big band music, sometimes it's the doors. just depends on the mood of the staff, so if you're willing to just go with it, you'll have a good time. you might see the people behind the bar busting a move when it's slow.
well, i'll see you on thursday.
