my first experience of ramen and am i glad that it was here at orenchi ramen. if i had any doubts about the choice of restaurant, the crowd waiting outside the door in the winter cold (the inside wait area was also packed) would have been enough to convince me otherwise. we had to wait for around 45 minutes for a table.
unfortunately they don't have any ramen in a veggie broth, so the vegetarian in our party had to order a bunch of appetizers instead. the agedashi tofu was a revelation, and the wasabi potato salad bowl was licked clean. i didn't particularly care for the spicy edamame, or the beer battered onion rings (had no personality.) now coming to the star of the show - the ramen had the most wonderful broth. it is the kind of broth you wish you had on a cold winter day, or when you are sick. hot, flavourful, and soul-nourishing. i wish there was more pork in the dish, but it definitely came together really well with the broth, the seaweed, the egg and the truffle oil. we washed this amazing meal down with sake - hot and cold, and asahi (beer)
