excellent food and service. i appreciated the team effort of the host, waiter, and others to provide quick and efficient service. we each ordered the chicken and biscuit, drawn by the idea of "breakfast at supper" this evening. the components of the dish - fried chicken, bacon, fried egg (poached for him), sausage gravy (this wasn't a calorie-conscious meal!) were really good. the grits were outstanding. the hash browns gave me pause - they looked like a slab of the frozen variety - but they were anything but that. they were very good. a great meal, and the portions were huge. neither of us finished our plate!

good food, slow service. one would think these people know how to manage a resturant given that its in the same family as tryst and the diner, but alas, they don't. the food is always good, but there is always a 45 minute+ wait. best best - make your way down to the diner on 18th street and eat there.

good food, excellent service. we went to open city for breakfast today for the first time. it was busy but we only had to wait a few minutes to get a seat inside. i had the cornmeal pancakes with blueberries and they were ok. i think i'd prefer their flour pancakes but these were alright. my girlfriend had the waffle which was pretty good. the sausage and bacon were both good.

we were surprised at how fast the service was. we had our food just a few minutes after ordering and the waitress came back often enough to check on us and bring the bill.

for dinner, i went with the baked penne. my original choice was the mushroom gnocchi but they were out of that dish unfortunately. the penne was a great second choice! it was filled with arugula, mushrooms and onion then topped with mozzarella, provolone and pecorino cheeses. with a race in a few days, this dish was a fantastic way to carbo-load.

the food was ok (like worth going again, but i won't crave it), but the service was terrible. example: i saw my server once - when i ordered. i never had a refill on my drink (and no, i did not eat or drink really fast or anything) and when i finished my meal i looked around for my server and (actually checked my watch) waited 22 mins for her to come by and take my credit card. i am usually very very polite to wait staff because i waited tables and i know they work hard, but this was numerically-measured slow and inattentive service. next time i'll go to any of the 50 restaurants nearby.

excellent, excellent, excellent, excellent brunch spot. perhaps the best in dc. the portions are huge and the food tastes amazing and is fairly priced. the staff are always professional despite the big numbers of people waiting during the weekend.

this is a great place to have in the neighborhood. it can get crowded so come early or prepare to wait a bit.

i really appreciate that they have vegan options and they clearly label them. one one complaint is that my friend and i ordered the tofu scramble which say it's 100% vegan, but then they serve non-vegan butter with it. i hope they look into getting vegan butter to offer customers. vegan butter is healthier, more environmentally friendly, and better for animals than regular butter while having an extremely similar taste. other than that, this place is perfect.

phenomenal food with very attentive staff! ordered the mushroom reuben with a side of pimento mac & cheese. everything was delicious, felt fresh, and came in such generous proportions that i needed help finishing the meal. if i lived in dc, i would be a regular here.

we were in d.c. for a few days and went here to have a quick dinner since this place was super close to where we were staying. we ordered their chicken tenders with ranch for our appetizers. the chicken tenders were really delicious. for entree, we decided to share the meatloaf wrapped in bacon dish. it came with a side of mashed potatoes as well as sweet potatoes. the meatloaf was flavorful and really delicious. the staff is really attentive and the service was pretty quick. overall a nice place to hang out with friends.

on our trip to dc, we stayed down the street from this great diner. we had brunch, breakfast, and lunch here on three separate occasions. they have a wide selection of great food, including vegetation, gluten free, and vegan options. i opted for their big breakfast, a ham/egg croissant, and a pizza. my favorite was definitely the pizza, which is big enough for two. i would also recommend their hash browns, served in a cake, and crisped to perfection. service is a little slow, but faster if you sit at the bar. great atmosphere and friendly staff.

i've visited open city many times, and it's one of my favorite places to eat in the city. everything i've had is very good, wether it be for breakfast or dinner, open city has a wide variety of dishes. for breakfast i highly recommend the french toast and hash browns, they're exceptional every time. and any of the salads or sandwiches are perfect for lunch/dinner.
