olexa's cafe, cakes, & catering

a+++ cake. i am not a big fan of cakes (more of a cookie person), but i absolutely love olexa's cakes. the buttercream icing is phenomenal! we get all of our cakes from olexa's.

lovely place. just ate here today right before 4. they close at 4 and were kind enough to let us in last minute. the atmosphere here is fantastic, clean, colorful, earthy, hip. even the bathrooms are spotless, with brass sinks, real hot water and lavender soap.

and the food is just fantastic. i split my club with a roast beef and cheddar. sandwiches come with a side salad and for a dollar more you can upgrade it to a caesar with real parmesan. tried some of the tomato soup which was heavenly. we were all geared up for some dessert but were too full. our server was very friendly, actually everyone there was. i was a bit uncomfortable being the last customer in there for the day but they assured us all was okay and so we relaxed and enjoyed a really good meal. i had forgotten that i had dined here before. some 15 years ago a colleague would always take me here for lunch. when i walked in today i totally remembered--i used to love their black and blue salad. anyway, feels like i found a treasure today, very happy to rediscover your place. one of your sandwiches with the side salad for $8.95 is fair. will be back very soon.

i love the interior design of this place. you feel like you are sitting at a café in paris. they serve really good quiche and have a number of very appetizing desserts. they do not open all day, so make sure to check out the hours first.

great, great service. had the housemade boursin cheese to start, delicious. almond chicken salad was very good. wonderful spot to lunch with girlfriends or colleagues!

best paninis, worst people. i continue to go here because their food is hands down delicious. however, they charge an arm and a leg and definitely profile. if i go in made up, wearing a name brand dress and uggs or heels they are sooooo sweet. if i go in after working out or in a t-shirt and jeans they act like i'm the sh*t stuck on their shoes.

if you can put up with such snottiness, get the smokey turkey panini.

absolutely great service. quick answers, friendly, and a great experience so far (haven't picked up my cake yet, but i'm sure it will be delicious).

surprise retirement lunch. had a wonderful surprise retirement lunch for a friend. the food was wonderful and service was outstanding.

cute lunch spot- excellent food and the waitstaff are friendly and knowledgable- and yes, save room for cake!!

worst service in birmingham. olexa's is lucky to have great desserts becuase the service in this place is worse than mcdonalds. snotty, rude... little server girls.....are just two words that come to mind - words that i can post on this site anyway! friends of mine were planning a baby shower luncheon here - i immediately advised them to look for another spot asap - or perhaps, pick a locale and have olexa's cater the event, because as i said before, the desserts and food is good - just dreadful service.

get the vanilla cake.. on private culver rd. in mountain brook just off the main intersection in the busy english village, olexa’s is a chick-friendly retreat from reality complete with the absolute best vanilla wedding cake with butter cream frosting i’ve ever eaten. and it’s served warm. the frosting gets melty, as you might expect, but this cake is beyond belief! really—it’s worth driving across town for. maybe many towns. oh, and their other food is good too (salads, creps, sandwiches, quiches, soup) ;-) the dining room is decorated to look like the piazza of some old world village complete with tile awnings, shutters, window treatments and flower boxes. it’s a little silly looking, but feels nice anyway. can’t wait to take my out-of-town girlfriends here!

by the way, their catering service is outstanding, too. they did the highland's womens' conference this year: 3,000+ lunches all neatly packed and delicious!

totally awesome!!. their food is very good and the freshest i've had in a long time. absolutely delicious. the service was great. i had the vanilla cake. it's served warm and literally melts in your mouth. seriously you have to try their cake, hold it in your mouth without chewing and it just melts. it's amazing. by far the best cake i've ever had. even trumps pastry art in homewood!

the atmosphere is cute. made to look like your sitting on the street somewhere. defiantely a lot of girls/women in there. didn't really notice any men besides the guy who seated us. haha but either way delicious food and amazing desserts! oh and they have good prices. salads and paninis range from about 8.99 to 11.95, they have a quiche of the day if you're into that kind of thing. kind of like a panera bread but way way better! their menu is posted on their website too with prices so you can check it out before you go. pictures of the inside are also on there. :)

hands down, one of the best cakes you will ever put in your mouth.

horrible service. i ordered a cake for a christening. not only was it the wrong color, there was a crack along the top tier. we were told to smooth it out ourselves when we got home. are you kidding me? not acceptable. we will never be back nor refer any of our friends.

awful service!. i guess most of the housewives that come here have all the time in the world to spend at lunch. even if the place is empty, the staff would not acknowledge you. very poor costumer service. i would not go there even if they will give me a free lunch.
