octane coffee

i find myself here often when i’m in the mood for a jolt of caffeine, a cold beer or a well-made cocktail. they haven’t always had alcohol on the menu but when they made the jump, they’ve done it with class. it’s also one of the few bars where i can get some juice from my constantly dying iphone. even when there’s a lull in the postings here on the blog, i’m constantly gabbing on one social media platform or another — twitter and instagram being the main culprits. increasingly you can get more information on what’s going on in a bar or restaurant on instagram than you

love this place and the fact that it stays open late. favorite things here are their espresso, jasmine green tea and sablés they have in those giant cookie jars. staff is sweet and helpful.

location location location. atmosphere atmosphere atmosphere. ha ha, this place achieves and both of those things. not to mention the service and coffee are great. it's a perfect place to get some work done too, the atmosphere makes you feel really cool, which i know for me promotes productivity. also, macaroons!

i liked it. i don't know anything about coffee but i like coming here. i really don't even drink coffee but there is something inviting about this place. i feel like i could hang out here all day. i also enjoyed the coffee about as much as someone like me can enjoy coffee. i am no coffee snob but if you enjoy an occasional cup like me, i think you'll love having it here

wow, i thought i was in a saturday night live skit. how can 4 "barista's" ignore one person for so long. what a complete waste of time. french press coffee as the only means of brewing, have the owners ever been to a real coffee shop, take a trip to la, portland, or seattle and take copius notes a-holes!

not a fan. atmosphere - this is one of the few positives for me regarding octane. the atmosphere here is fantastic. whether you decide to sit inside or outside, there's a nice feel to the place. the industrial look, clean environment, and good music selection does indeed make this a great place to spend an afternoon working away on a laptop or a novel. the art for sale, while not my particular taste, is a nice addition as well.

coffee - and here's where i start disliking octane. the coffee here just does not taste good. first off, they only offer a light roast, and at that they only offer it french pressed. just about every non-chain coffee store i've been to in atlanta offers several methods of brewing and several beans to chose from, so it's weird to see octane limiting their selection so drastically.

the service is also a big no no for me. they say the first impression is the one that lasts, and i had to say i had a bad one at octane. the baristas have a pretentious feel about them, as if their position makes them better than the customer. that's a bit of a faux pas. however, as i said, that was my first impression. i know people who've had better service. but that being said, they do keep a very tidy coffee shop.

freezing cold and extremely rude.. i love this coffee shop because it has good coffee, a good atmosphere, and a good amount of space to do work. i hate, however, the rude, superior attitude of literally every employee. i've been coming here for over two years (because i can't find anything better in the vicinity) and i am regularly amazed by the way i am spoken to. i have been told that i need to learn how to drink my coffee black. so patronizing! and this attitude is a constant. further, their lattes, which is what i like to drink on the regular, are lukewarm when they first arrive and then get super cold super quickly because they put the lattes in glass cups. please learn something about heat conduction. i understand you desire to be unique and cute, but there is a reason that people use ceramic cups for hot drinks - and it's not because they are ignorant, which is how octane treats their patrons. i have asked them to put my latte's in ceramic mugs and been treated as if i am a burden and an idiot. these people are the worst stereotype of self-righteous, pretentious, i-work-in-a-coffee-shop hipsters.
ok, and lastly, and the worst - it is absolutely freezing there. i am shaking with cold whenever i'm in there, winter or summer. i need to wear a coat when i'm there. i have goosebumps. and it's not like i carry a sweater and coat and winter shoes when it's 95 degrees out. i'm not saying it needs to be warm, and i understand that it's hotter in the back, but this is ridiculous. but seriously, it's cannot be that hot back there, i've worked in restaurants and coffee shops and it's not that much of a difference between the front and back. but if they need it cooler back there, why make the customers suffer when you could easily turn down the air conditioning and bring a fan for the back. and the rudeness i receive when i have asked for them to either turn off the fans or turn down the blasting air conditioning is outrageous! it's really a shame, because it's a great space.

i got an iced coffee with the in-house-made carmel shot. read my book and enjoyed the atmosphere uninterrupted for almost three hours!

cool.... i love the artsy area. ate the almond croissant and the had the earl grey tea. loved the music, but towards the afternoon it did get a little too hot. i guess they wanted to save on the electricity.

jason and i went to octane to discuss embedded computer vision. he tells me that it's rated one of the best coffee houses in the country. it certainly combines a very hip atmosphere and great coffee. the place has been crowded every time i've been there. the coffee has the usual touches like the artistic foam patterns. i've had the baked goods once or twice and they were fine. parking could potentially be a problem but i've always managed to find a place. 0 comments: post a comment newer post older post home subscribe to: post comments (atom)

love love love. i love octane. everything about this place is perfect. the location is great, the service is great and the coffee is amazing. the baristas are so nice and helpful. i'm always game to try something new and they always sell me on their products. while i do feel like it can get a little bit crowded with customers and especially customers with their laptops, i don't seem to mind because it is such a comfortable atmosphere. they have some great french presses and a decent wine/beer selection. if you are looking for a relaxing place to hang out at and want good quality coffee, then this is the best place to go in all of atlanta.
