nana asian fusion and sushi bar

ok sushi. the dressing on the green salad was odd. only miso soup is offered with the lunch special, clear soup is an additional charge. my california roll was bland with bitter cucumbers. but the salmon roll might have been the tastiest i have ever had.

not worth the wait.. we read the initial reviews for nana fusion which weren't very good so we waited a while to see if time and experience would improve their rating. once i saw that 91% of urbanspoon reviewers gave it a thumbs up, we decided to go there for lunch. big disappointment. we had sesame chicken as the baseline with which we judge all asian restaurants. the sesame chicken at nana asian fusion restaurant was attractive, but bland. it was more like a frozen entree from weight watchers or healthy choice. unfortunately, if an asian restaurant fails the sesame chicken test, we won't go back to try any other menu selections. no complaint with the staff and the food was served hot.

oh nana. so i love the people here, they are so friendly and i really respect them. but every time i order food from nana, which i keep coming back because though it's not authentic it is quite good, it just is not spicy. i ask for extra spicy, i order spicy dishes, i ask for extra extra extra spicy, i ask for them to burn my mouth off. it has never had the slightest bit of spice to it, ever. please nana, please your spice fans and burn our mouths!

delicious sushi!. great place for sushi, thats all i have tried here but it was awesome and the service was excellent. great pricing for superior quality - better than saketumi or umami moto downtown milwaukee. peanut avocado rolls are fun and tasty! great spot for dining in or take out. favorite spot is back by the bar you can watch the sushi chefs at work. yum!!

sushi may be good. nothing else seems to be good there. i am not a huge sushi fan, so i ordered another dish when i went with a sushi-loving friend. their food is not good. my friend liked her sushi, though.

excellent food and atmosphere. i have been to nana a couple times now. every time the sushi has exceeded our expectations. i have had the squid salad appetizer twice and loved it. (you have to ask for this special.) the lonely angel roll is also excellent. if you are looking for the best sushi restaurant i have found in the milwaukee area, look no further than nana asian fusion. thank you all for such a wonderful experience every time i have been there.

reviews can be wrong.... after reading several reviews i was hesitant to be too hopeful about my dining experience here but nana was delightful after all.
i consider myself a bit of a sushi snob, while dining at umamimoto downtown recently a friend and i actually sent a roll back because it was awful. (everything else was divine there, just that one roll was bad)...back to nana sushi, all 3 of us who had lunch there will definitely be back as repeat customers. the lunch sashimi special is highly recommended, 6 large pieces of assorted sashimi and a roll of your choice for around $12 is a great deal, and was premium quality. did i mention this lunch special also comes with a bowl of miso soup, and a small salad. the house ginger dressing is also quite above par for the milwaukee area. i had the hollywood roll as well which i highly recommend.
the staff was attentive and the food was great. great presentation, great flavor, great time. (although i have not been back during the dinner rush which seems what most take issues with?)
my one complaint/comment is we prefer low sodium soy sauce, and when the server brought it to us it was almost a syrup, i'm not sure if she brought us the wrong thing or what that was because it looked more like a ramekin of eel sauce....but everything else was delicious.

go for the sushi. great sushi. i can't say it's the best i've ever had but it is the best i've had in milwaukee. granted, the speed of service could improve and the wait staff could be a tad more attentive, but the sushi is worth the wait. waiters are friendly but the restaurant seems short-staffed, at least on friday and saturday nights. adding staff dedicated to clearing tables, refilling water glasses, etc. during peak hours would help, as it looks as if waiters are spending too much time with those tasks - not to mention it can be unappetizing to watch your waiter clear a table just before serving your sushi. i can't speak to any of the other cuisines at nana. i haven't tried anything else there. in my experience, asian fusion restaurants tend to do one thing well and the rest of the menu suffers. sushi, it seems, is where nana excels but it's nice that they offer other dishes for any non-sushi lovers in your party. if you love sushi, you'll love nana. just avoid friday and saturday nights if you want attentive service.

fabulous!!! even take out is better than most sit down sushi result ants. truly spectacular, worth every penny!!!!

not a fan. sushi was just okay, service and environment needs improvement

a suburban oasis worthy of downtown dining. loved this joint. needed sushi on a snowy saturday night, went to get takeout and escape the family unit, and two kids with the flu. had two drinks at the bar amidst friendly bartenders and football on the flat screen. the bartenders know not a thing about sushi, but make up for it with their charm. the atmosphere is sleek and inviting. totally felt comfortable in a minute. seems right out of new york or chicago. to top it all off- the sushi was excellent. though they messed up my order and i had to go back once. they gave me a free drink- (im getting a little sloppy at this point) and all was right with the world.

i hope this place does well, because it is the perfect fit for the location on up and coming oakland ave. they have to remember though- you're only as good as your worst piece of sushi! that's why we dont go to the other north shore sushi house (on green tree) anymore!!!

fresh and delicious!!!. my husband and i went there for dinner last night and it was pretty good! i got the hollywood roll and he got two veggie rolls. we got our food within 5-10 minutes of ordering it. it's definitely a place we'll stop by again.

excellent food. we ate at nana's for the first time tonight and we're glad we did. on the waiter's recommendation, two of us ordered general tso's chicken and tangerine beef, both excellent. we had our choice of white or brown rice--we both chose brown.

the rice was a little bland by itself--seemed to need salt--but was fine once mixed with the entree. my husband ordered sushi and sesame, and he said everything tasted very fresh. he especially liked the octopus. prices were moderate--our bill for three came to $73 without tip which included two glasses of wine.

a few glitches in the service--my husband's meal came after the two of us were halfway through our meals. and he got salmon instead of salmon roe as he had ordered. the waiter offered to exchange it, but my husband decided to keep it. we overlooked these problems as typical of a new restaurant. more important, everyone was friendly and made us feel welcome and appreciative of our business.

the restaurant is located where the china palace used to be, but the space has been totally redone. the atmosphere is warm and inviting with low lighting. bathrooms are upscale with vessel sinks and tiled walls and floors.

we are eager to go back to try other items on the menu!

**a great blend of food, service & ambience**. my girlfriend and i had a great experience at nana. we went for dinner at around 7:30pm on monday. great interior stylings and comfortable. friendly service. we really enjoyed the food. the dragon and spider rolls were delicious, i ordered the tangerine beef. the entre itself was sufficient for the meal as the portion size was very generous. very good waitservice.

i'd highly recommend.

we love it. it's always unfair to review a new restaurant in its early days, when it's just getting it's act together, but we've enjoyed it so much that we've gone three times in december, and i'm meeting a friend for lunch on wednesday.

the waitstaff is young and not very polished, but earnest. as we've been working our way through the menu, we've enjoyed everything except the sesame chicken, which was subpar (go to emperor of china for that!). prices are quite reasonable. lunches are a real bargain, and we both took home half our dinners.

we're hoping this will continue to be a vibrant presence in our neighborhood.
