exotic menu and nicely executed.
my long black was strong and savoury with a coco aftertaste.
i ordered sardines on toasts which came with lahne and bits of condiments. it was quite favoursome despite being a plain simple dish.
my mentor had citrus and saffron waffles and he almost licked the plate.

one of the first cafe i visited when i moved into the area and i've been back many times since then. i remembered ordering the panna cotta on my first visit and thought that it was the most beautiful dish and the best panna cotta i've tasted. the staff were and always very friendly and attentive. in my opinion this is one of the best cafe in paddington!

if i could give this place a negative 100 i would, shouk please make it aware on your page that booking is essential. i got to the door and the waitress literally forced us out to the footpath (but let one girl in that came from behind us) closed the door behind her and with her clip board said if we didn't call ahead there is a 35 mintue wait. ah no, you do not force customers out at all and speak to them the way you did, wont even be returning when there are vacancies because of that. found a better coffee shop that respects customers and lets them in. just a idea shouk, if you need that much space you have to start refusing customers then move to a larger location. wont be back.

shouk cafe is located on top of a hill which affords a nice view when you sit at the back.  they serve some excellent breakfast items and some nice middle eastern fare like the latke stack which i enjoyed. i also highly recommend the lamb salad. the mint and lemon limonana is also quite refreshing.
i didn't enjoy their hummus kawarma, the mince was just too salty and the spices were not really incorporated in well.
overall a pretty good experience, but i'm not sure i'd be heading back in much of a hurry considering that it is nestled a bit out of the way for me.

according to their website, owners guy frawley and adi shabtay opened shouk cafe in march, 2014. we tried the following dishes. citrus and saffron waffles ($18) - belgian waffles with ruby grapefruit segments, lemon curd, saffron ice cream, orange powder and shredded coriander jelly. this was a well put-together dish with many textures. the waffles were very sweet so the sour elements complemented perfectly.

i've eaten here twice now and really enjoyed the food both times. the latke stack as great and i quite enjoyed the shakshuka (it will never be as good as my jewish grandmothers though). the staff here are nice but the service could be better. the first time i dined here we got our meals quickly as expected but the second time i went, the meals took over an hour to get to the table. although the staff were apologetic, it didn't make sense as it wasn't very busy at all. i would definitely come back here and recommend it to people, everything on the menu looks super appetising.

super busy cafe on the corner of collingwood st, paddington. the wait on food was long but worth it. ate the 'pumpkin & haloumi & 2 poached eggs on sourdough' and 'belgian waffles with grapefruit, saffron ice-cream & coriander jelly'.

the waffles were tasty - a lot of texture (thick and crunchy) and the side crumbles were nice. the grapefruit balanced out the sweetness. however, didn't like the saffron ice-cream. tip: share this dish between at least 2 people.

pumpkin and haloumi dish was yum - chilli sauce gave it extra flavour.

there is a reason why shouk has such a fantastic reputation, their breakfast is definitely one of the best in brisbane. the cafe is quite large inside and always packed, so try to pop in early to avoid the queues! the service was prompt and friendly, and the choices and flavours on offer are extensive. i tried the shakshuka and the latke stack, and we ordered a side of avocado which was served extremely generously. i would definitely recommend shouk for a reliably satisfying breakfast.

always a breakfast favourite! i've eaten my way through half the menu and it doesn't disappoint. staff are friendly and attentive. my best tip would be to call an hour before you get there to beat the long queue.
