local spot. cute little restaurant. i was slightly disappointed mostly due to false expectations since mrs k's is advertised on some sights for their seafood. the menu is very limited on seafood options and don't even think about having a seafood dinner with a combination of items. the crab cakes are good but i can think of a few other places i'd prefer. lamb chops were good with a variety of sauce selections. the side dishes were all pretty good but the brussel sprouts were a bit oily. at the end of the day i'd only eat here as a local restaurant. there were no stand out dishes that i'd crave. the prices are also a little high considering i can think of numerous restaurants i'd enjoy my food more with larger portions.

at the end of the day i think everything would be pretty good but you may not have many standouts. great for locals.

not worth the price - 2.5 stars out of 10. we were visiting the area for the day, and found this restaurant via urbanspoon. no time to research. surprised to get a table @ 6:30 last saturday night. should have been a clue. note to new owners: must have food quality & wait staff match the ambiance. do not underestimate the value of top wait staff if you are charging this much.

like:
setting = charming
maitre d' on phone = inviting
table = corner main room, best in the house for us, especially on short notice
table settings
cosmopolitan cocktail = very nice
filet & lamb grilled as ordered (med-rare)
sauteed mini-squash

dislike:
parking - hard to find the lot
lighting in side room - too bright
wait staff - the worst 3 u's = unfriendly, untrained, uninterested
caesar salad - overdressed, too much parmesan, not subtle at all & a bad way to start the meal
meat sauces - heavy, sweet, overpowering.
desserts unimpressive
price for quality - $60/person

terrible time. i came here.... terrible time.
i came here 6 years ago and had a wonderful time. this time around was a different story. the crab legs are rationed out during service the waiter was rude, they never restocked the bacon and i got there at 2pm brunch is not complete until 3:30. i had to ask the server to refill my coffee and eventually he just stopped coming. when i went to order french toast i was told by my server that they don't have any because the kitchen is closed. then when i inquired about the bacon my response was hey i'm a server not the manager.

this place was down right awful and i will not return for the over priced cold warned over brunch.

brunch. i have been to mrs. k.'s twice in the past month for brunch and have to admit i really enjoyed it. yes, the dining room upstairs is quite loud, but you can make a reservation to be seated in the wine cellar or one of the smaller rooms upstairs. freshly made french toast is brought to your table and the all you-can-eat brunch buffet includes ham or salmon eggs benedict, fresh oysters on the half shell, alaskan king crab legs, shrimp, scallops, an omelett station, belgian waffle station (making both small and large ones) and a carving station with salmon and prime rib. some of the breakfast pastries may have been a little subpar, but the wait staff was very attentive and kept our table clean and our coffee hot. definitely enjoyed the historic atmosphere of the place and finished our meal with a stroll through the beautiful, well-maintained garden.

not worth the money or time!. this place has gone to hell and in a basket and then some. the food was cold the place was to loud the tip on three people was forced our three rail vodka bloody mary's was $27. the brunch was terrible eggs benedict, salmon and meatballs burnt by sterno cans. the waffles the size of cupcakes and hard as stale french bread the bread pudding was like mush. prime rib cold and old. handlers look disheveled. the bus boys shirts dirty and yellowed. our waiter we saw twice. we will never go or recommended again. ms k's troll house

new wine cellar is amazing!. i was just at mrs. k's this past sunday for their brunch which is not to be missed! an amazing selection of delicacies that make you go back for more and more! i stuffed myself while enjoying a refreshing mimosa.
i saw the new wine cellar/bar which just opened and it's absolutely stunning! you are transported into old europe with the sounds of a babbling fountain with candles (very much like a grotto) and thousands of bottles of wine.
being a native washingtonian and growing up at mrs k's, it's so refreshing to see owners with such a passion & who have kept with traditions but reinvented new portions of the restaurant to elevate mrs. k's to a new & elegant vision for the future.
i can't wait to attend one of their wine tasting dinners. sign up for their e-newsletter as well for promotions and event listings.
mrs k's is definitely one place worth the visit no matter where you are in the area and a lovely place to bring out of town guests or for wedding receptions & parties. the gardens in spring/summer/fall are gorgeous as well.
give yourself a treat and explore this historic toll house to learn more about the history of montgomery county & the original owners of mrs. k's.
