great service, great food, great drinks!. hostesses were very friendly and our waiter, jack, was wonderful. husband had a halibut special that was cooked to perfection. crab cakes as an appetizer were delicious. i had the bacon and egg salad as well as the fried polenta for my dinner - both were super yummy. bartender was very detailed in his work and made delicious drinks. overall wonderful! !

wonderful atmosphere inside. the tables are way to close together. we ordered burgers. flavor was great, until i got to the slab of fat. the fatty bacon ruined it for me.

overall experience was good. they have drinks that are from all over the world, opportunity to branch out & try something new. i had a refreshing “sports tea” no caffeine & no sugars with a fusion of ginger root & other flavors. appetizers were good as were the entrees. we were surprised by the unexpectedly high prices by everything else was spot on.

great dining experience. excellent ambiance, decor, music. the building is an old firehouse circa 1908 nicely repurposed into a trendy bistro. a nicely balanced menu. i ordered the duck breast and was very pleased. dressed with a cherry reduction and accompanied with smoky broccoli and a chipotle cornbread. subtle sweetness with smokiness with a little heat. topped it off with the bread pudding for dessert. what a pleasure! highly recommended.

we absolutely loved this place.  the night before we had a very disappointing meal in san francisco at a much heralded restaurant. we came to monterey having heard nothing of the restaurants and rather blindly picked montrio. our hopes rose at the charming atmosphere and things just go better from their.  the drink list was very impressive with some imaginative options that elicited questions.  the waiter was not only very knowledgable about the incredible craft that went into these drinks but he had passion about it as well.  we had a couple of medium plates and a couple of entres. each was well balanced and prepared perfectly some were imaginative.   the mantrio, was the highlight of a very pleasant couple of days in monterey.

just really good food! innovative without being outlandish. subtle flavors will leave you satisfied, without leaving you wondering what it was you ate. as my father commented, the didn't ask him what tempature he wanted his tuna because they cooked it perfectly.

oatmeal crusted brie could have been my dinner! delicious!! the lobster blt sliders were ok, should not have let the server insist we order the double for $25. the pork trio entree was very tender & flavorful. admiral blackberry martini was disappointing with an odd, muddled texture & bitter flavor. too many flavors that competed.

great atmosphere and service. we loved our meals: artichoke ravioli and steelhead trout. our server was a delight and very prompt. great for a date night or a night out with the wife and kids.

wow! i started with a peach mojito and oatmeal crusted brie and immediately fell in love with the montrio bistro. the brie was melted inside an oatmeal crust and was served with a cumberland sauce. it was fantastic! but it just kept getting better, i had a braised beef short rip that was so soft, delicious and fabulous that words just don't do it justice. for desert we shared a creme brûlée and a chocolate ganache. both were spectacular. i can't wait to come back to monterey just to eat here again!

i loved every part of this meal. we went for my birthday and were treated like royalty by jaime (manager) and tia (our server). the peach mojitos and white cosmo were delicious to start , loved the brie starter and the portobello mushroom with polenta entree. the olive oil used to dip the bread was fabulous. i didn't want to leave. i will go back when i return monterey!

the braised short ribs,although tasty, were fatty. we had two orders and both were fatty. the artichoke fritter was delicious.

absolutely love this place. we come here for date nights or birthdays. the food is amazing and cravable. their sirloin with garlic mashed potatoes is the best ive ever had. the deserts are great too i had s'mores, gourmet of course. and their wine selection can't be beat. great atmosphere and the perfect place for a night in the town. but be sure to make a reservation!!!
