my ultimate southern food experience!. two friends and i went to nashville over the weekend on a whim of wanting to go somewhere musically inclined, and for us country music freaks, nothing spoke louder to us than nashville! once there and terribly hungry, we decided to try monell's because of all the rave reviews we read, and boy o boy - was that an exotic experience or what! the people were so friendly, and the food was spectacularly good! the pasts salad was to die for, and so were the barbecued ribs. for the random company, the great food, and all-together a marvelous first-time-in-nashville experience, i would recommend monell's to everyone who visits the city! what was even better was the throwaway price at which such delicious food came at...=d i'd do it again and again and again!

nothing but good times. i have visited monell's lately each time i travel to nashville for business or pleasure. i am always taking someone with me (pleasure trips) that has not had an opportunity to enjoy or tell someone about the good times i have had. the food is delicious and the ambience is excellent. i have never sat at a table with guest that were not friendly. the conversation and sharing of "is this your first time", "where are you from" "would you pass this, would you pass that" makes this an excellent place to visit.

a nashville tradition in germantown. ate at monell's for dinner while in nashville mid-january on a friday night. not much of a wait so we were seated and eating within 15 minutes of arriving. food was good and plentiful. drink choices are limited to tea, lemonade, or water. enjoyed our conversation with others at the table during dinner. only disappointment was dessert. expected a pie or cake not pudding. will return again in the future.

interesting. definitely a unique experience. i happened to have a table full of hilarious people and we all had a good time. however, for the same price, i could have gone to a country buffet. you're paying to sit with people for a different experience. not the quality of food. although the quantity was overwhelming.

cold food. the concept seemed to be a good idea, but boy was i wrong. i was told to sit at a table and when i pulled out a chair it flipped out into the floor. i sat down the food was not being passed, so now i am at the mercy of strangers to pass the food. the food was brought out by some guy in a dirty apron and tossed onto the table. mostly you had no idea what was on the table except the fried chicken that was cold. i did not get any food that was suppose to be hot even warm. the cold was room temperature. well, at least i didn't have to wait; i understand some times there is a long wait. wait for this, never. i could go on, but i have said enough. i am 69 years old and could wait to leave. this is an honest and true experience and hope this is posted.

family style, delicious is an understatement!. ok, yes there was a 30 minute wait but oh my goodness. the food was amazing. so much passed around that i was full by the time biscuits came around. i loved it. oh, and if u dont like sitting with random people while enjoying your meal, this spot is not for you! nor ordering something off the menu.

take me back to a simpler time.... when i was young and my whole family sat down around the table for meals... chicken crisp on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, veggies excellent...love the mac-n-cheese. eggs for breakfast are to die for not to mention the panfried potatoes and onions!! just a wonderful place that still imbues a sense of community and humanity via socialization!!

i read the reviews and was not disappointed! monell's was an absolute home run!!!! great home style food, outstanding atmosphere and friendly staff. it's like eating at your southern grandma's house, well if i had one. hearty and homecooked, it doesn't get any better than this! if you have time, stroll the surrounding neighborhood and check the interesting architecture - a great nashville experience. don't miss monell's!!!

i would highly recommend monell’s to nashville locals and out-of-towners alike. the food is delicious, the experience is unique, and it harkens back to a simpler time. even the setting, location and building are unique. it really feels like a place where you could enjoy a big meal with your family and then kick back to relax- come to think of it, this is what family thanksgiving dinners aspire to be! do yourself a favor and check out monell’s- your taste buds will thank you, but your belt and waistline will moan in protest.

i can't say enough good things about this place. the only bad thing about this place is that there's no room for an awesome strawberry cupcake from "the cupcake collection" just down the block, afterwards. i love that you dont have to "decide" what to eat. no menu - you eat what they bring you which is multiple types of salads, vegatbles, and meats, as well as a dessert ( usually bananna pudding and sometimes strawberry shortcake) on friday and saturday evenings they have fried pickled green tomatoes that will diminish any future "plain old' fried green tomato experience. the other thing i love about this place is sitting with other guests and learning something new. it's not just a place to eat, it's an experience.

last visit: december 2008 web site: monellsdining.ypguides.net we first visited monell's about 10 years ago on the basis of a tiny ad in a newspaper for passengers at the nashville airport: all-you-could-eat for $11. this proposition sounds attractive to a hungry traveler independent of the quality of the food. but monell's turned out to be an outstanding experience. the restaurant is located in a restored 1880s house in the old german section of town. guests are served at communal tables and served family style. the food is excellent; the family-style service helps them serve extremely fresh portions. i would never say that a restaurant is as good as my mom's cooking because it wouldn't be true and such a statement would endanger my safety, but monell's has mastered southern home cooking. their fried chicken is outstanding; they always serve a selection of meats at every meal. their dressing is more corn-based than the typical dressing, which suits my taste.  the communal service adds

meh.. i grew up on southern cooking, and monell's is just ok. if you're already downtown, it's probably the best option nearby. but i'd send someone out to loveless if they really want a taste of authentic southern cooking… heck, i'd send 'em to cracker barrel first. don't get me wrong, monell's is good. lots of people love it (clearly), but for me, it's not the real deal.
