exceptional food, affordable pricing. my wife and i both loved this restaurant. the ambience of the place, with its outdoor seating and french quarter interior, was inviting and unique.
more importantly, though, was the food, which was exceptional. we had the fried green tomatoes and shrimp, followed by an oyster po' boy and jumbalaya, then finished with a slice of pecan pie.
the tomatoes were fried in a fine cornmeal breading while the shrimp, unfried, shined because of their freshness. it was paired with a red creole and remolaude sauce. it was perfectly balanced.
because the oysters on the oyster po' boy were fresh (the freshest i've ever had in the st louis area) the sandwich was minimally dressed in a little lettuce, tomato, and a spicy white sauce. again, they used the cornmeal breading. the flavors were simple and amazing.
my wife enjoyed the jambalaya, every ingredient of which was made from scratch. they even make the andoille sausage in house. i tried a bite. rich, tomatoey, spicy, savory, complex-i think i finally understand what it's supposed to taste like.
lastly, was the pecan pie, which came with whipped cream. we devoured it. though sweet and nutty, as you might expect, there were some other spices in play that made it out of this world good.
in closing, i think this is probably the best meal i've had in several years. everything, from beginning to end, was top notch. i've paid twice as much for food half as good. with their unique atmosphere, friendly service, and amazing food, i'll be back soon.
