mickey's bar & grill

as soon as we hit the deck i felt like i was on vacation. had to pass on the delicious looking cocktails (driving). started out with hushpuppies. they had most likely been sitting in the back under a lamp with the rest of the hushpuppies, but they were still acceptable. i ordered my oyster po boy with the cole slaw on the side. glad i did! the po boy was amazingly yummy with the aioili, but the slaw was warm and sour. i also got the jalapeño cream corn: a great choice. daughter got a bacon cheeseburger with fries. really good and loved the fries. we all nibbled on those fries. unfortunately the gumbo was disappointing. it was like a tomato flavored seafood soup with mushy shrimp. will try it again, but will avoid the gumbo.

grilled flounder was great with grilled veggies and rice! bob did a great job as our bar tender - waiter! second time eating there rrom out of town! the hamburgers are awesome as well!

it is somewhat weird to drive through a trailer park/rv park to get to the restaurant....but it is worth it. it looks like a bar and that's all....but the food is great and so is the atmosphere. kids loved looking off the balcony to see birds/boats/other stuff to point at.

had the flounder one day and the burger the next day. excellent both times.!! great atmosphere and view.!

yum. great food! try the blackened fish sandwich.

really enjoyed my fried fish! it was crispy outside and moist inside. the fries are so good! my husband's south of the border burger was quite tasty! ordered something to replace the cole slaw that came with the fish and got some very yummy pinto beans. i'd come back!

gumbo good- only. only the gumbo was good. fried/frozen fish from sysco. we ordered crab puppies. a dough ball, fried. no flavor of crab. another huge, expensive disappointment for rockport. 4 dinners, $90 take out. parking is limited and difficult. you have to drive through a ghetto trailer park to get there, trailers on cinder blocks. nice. no.
where do the locals eat? ???

my kind of place. ever since i read stinky's review, i knew i had to go. tried a couple of times but it is hidden a little bit and off the main drag, but once you get here, you will be glad you did. we have been three times now and each time we have had different items and loved them all. try the gumbo, less the rice and you will have the full meal deal. rich, full of all sort of little goodies! the southwest burger complete with jalepenos also very good and the fries over the rings every time.

a perfect day can be had here!!!. aransas pass & port aransas are a whole different world when it comes to eating out. for the most part, restaurants down here are designed to feed hungry fisherman. down home american bar food, hot, and quick is the order of the day.
while mickeys' pretty much follows that formula, they have some real gems on the menu, my favorite being fried oysters. they do the batter in house and its light, a little spicy, and very flavorful. they have an amazing soft shell crab on occasion as well. and crab puppies are compulsory. you must order them (don't argue with me, it'll just end in tears...)
the atmosphere is typical port a fish shack, with terrific views of the water, and some great local characters to tell some great tall sea tales.
service is friendly and fast, and prices, while a little high, are right in line with other joints of this caliber in the area.
mickey's is actually a marina, and is famous for having some of the best fishing guides in the area. so come in, eat some oysters, hook up with your guide and go have a good day of fishing. then come back here, eat some more crab puppies, and let the friendly bartenders help you enjoy whats left of your day. if that's not a perfect day, i don't know what is.
