michoacan massacred our mothers day. i took my elderly parents to michoacan mexican restaurant on 7870 w. tropical pkwy, las vegas for a mothers day lunch. instead it was a huge disappointment. after waiting 40 minutes for our food my mother received the incorrect dish. we had to ask multiple times to have our waiter come back and he picked up the dish, no apologies for the error. about 25 minutes later after the rest of us had finished our food my mother did finally receive the correct dish but was sloppily put together. we asked for the manager several times, which we later found out was the owner, mark berry. finally after a bit the owner came over and asked what was wrong without introducing himself. my father asked if he was the manager and he arrogantly said, "i can be." we explained the situation and his response was, "what do you want me to do about it?" my father told him to fix the problem and the owners response was, "you were unhappy the minute you walked in." we were mortified by the arrogance and condescending attitude from mark berry the owner! it ruined the lunch and we left. i went to mark after my parents walked out and told him his behavior was unacceptable and he should not have spoken to my elderly parents that way especially on mothers day. mark's response, "well i am only human, what do you want me to do?"

poor service, arrogant and unaccomodating owner and marginal food. that is what you get at this restaurant. there are so many other wonderful mexican restaurant choices in town that know how to treat a customer, avoid this place.

if you want to travel to michoacan, mexico without leaving nevada, go to the michoacan gourmet mexican restaurant in centennial center. owner and executive chef mark berry has a passion for this very special, one of a kind restaurant and so do i.

from the moment you walk in the door you’ll see paintings by painters from michoacán, mexico, mexican hats, appreciate the charm of the hand carved wood pillars and insets, that were really brought back by mark berry from michoacán.
the restaurant was designed around the many artifacts mark berry brought back from michoacán prior to the place's grand opening.

from the time you open the double doors you’ll be greeted with a smile as though you’re family by one of the beautiful hostesses.

the combination plates at the michigan gourmet mexican restaurant show case the charming towns in michoacán, mexico.

from the beautiful tapestries on the wall, to the wood carvings, to the mexican hats, and hand made pottery, there is life all around you.

not only is the regional specialties delicious from the michoacán but the people who work there will make you want to return time and again.

here’s some of the extraordinary dishes that the michoacán gourmet mexican restaurant makes on an ordinary friday night.

the michoacan gourmet mexican restaurant has a fabulous sunday brunch. for one set price you can come in and savor tantalizing dishes like steak with cognac sauce, chicken sarandeado, an omelette made to order, and a host of other not found in other restaurants dishes like shrimp ceviche.

another very unique “must-experience” item is their tableside guacamole, made with a whole variety of tasty ingredients like tomatoes, onions, lime and cilantro, that you can as well as ripe hass avocados.

no matter where you sit at the michoacán gourmet mexican restaurant you will want to return frequently. there are so many fantastic menu selections, it would take you a year to try them all!

last chance!. i've been to this place a few times since it opened and each time i go i leave there not wanting to revisit. why, because the portions get smaller and the food only gets worse then before.
i am mexican i know it's not expensive food there are not too many ways to ruin this food yet they manage to do that each time i've been there and they don't seem to care. i've complained to the owners but it continues. i was just there yesterday thinking they may have gotten their act together however i found that the rice was not fully cooked, the buffet line looked like left overs and most of it was stuff you wouldn't order from the menu. yes i did call this to the attention of the owner and got the same as always.....................nothing!
there are much better real mexican resturants where i will spend my money in 2012 but it won't be at this place!

they can't make rice. i had never been to this restaurant before, but i heard good things so i thought i would give it a try. my hubby and i went today around 1:30pm and ordered the lunch specials. i had the shrimp rancheros with rice and beans, while the hubby had a chicken dish with a cream sauce and green chilis...his also had rice and beans.

first, let me say that we were given chips, salsa, beans, and fideo when we first sat down. we both thought the chips, salsa and beans were good, but we didn't like the fideo soup. the soup was really salty and i have made better fideo from the soup packet i buy at the grocery store.

ok so the food overall was good. i liked the shrimp and the sauce it came with was really delicious. my hubby really liked his chicken dish, and i have to admit, i thought it was good too. the beans were pretty good and even my child liked them. one complaint i have is that the rice was disgusting. the rice was hard and not authentic at all. no one really came around, so i didn't have anyone to complain to about the rice. there was a bus boy that came to fill our drinks once, but we were not sure who our server was.

a different guy came to take our plates, and i told him in spanish that the rice was hard. he offered to get us more, but we were both full, so we declined. he went back to the kitchen and the cooks tasted the rice and decided to make more. the guy came back to tell me thatnks for letting him know about the rice.

overall, i think the food would have been overpriced if it wasn't for the lunch special pricing. i am hispanic and i have eaten at many many mexican restaurants in arizona, where i am from, so i have high standards. i probably won't come back here again unless its for a lunch special. the food is not worth the price for dinner, especially since they can't make rice. i am not the greatest cook, but spanish rice is one thing i can at least make.

know mexican food - it's better than this!. this is probably the worst regular mexican restaurant that i have ever had the misfortune to visit. i bought a take out order for my family around 7 pm on a saturday night at the centennial location. i had never visited this restaurant but read reviews and its menu on-line so i thought it was safe. also, given that it was a weekend night when i ordered food, i expected that the better cooks would be on duty. i ordered quite a few items from the menu and paid $50 (with tip). besides the food being really over priced, the quality was substandard to say the least. the pork carnitas consisted of dried-out chunks of pork swimming in a thin, overly hot tomato sauce - probably to hide the age of the ingredients. the carne asada taco was a small, flat corn tortilla with a tablespoon of burnt meat on top - no cheese, no seasoning, no green onions, etc. the beef and pasta soup was like dish water and even my dog would not eat it when she was offered it. the chile relleno had little taste other than the eggy batter and had not much sauce. the beans and rice were a thin portion spread at the bottom of a take out pan and were terrible - rice a roni makes a better rice version and rosa rita beans out of the can have more flavor! the tamale and the green chicken enchilada were also dried out and tasteless - and again, no cheese. even the chips and salsa were a disaster - the chips were thick, greasy and had no salt. the salsa was hot and was really just low quality taco sauce - no chunks of tomato, onion or cilantro were present. i paid a lot for a side serving of their fresh, table-side guacamole which was marginal but had absolutely no seasoning. overall, given my family's meal experience, i doubt that this restaurant even owns any jars of cumino, garlic and oregano nor fresh cilantro or cheese. i called the restaurant the next day to complain - spoke with "jose" and have not heard back. if you are familiar with gordon ramsay's kitchen nightmares, the fox distressed restaurant series, you can definitely imagine that this restaurant deserves to featured!

great food and service. food is consistent with the recipes and always served hot. i love the fact that although i have my favorites, pollo cellestina, i feel comfortable enough to try other things on the menu just knowing they will be good too. great food and great choices!

great place!!. went there for a dinner and had a wonderful experience. the food is great and the service was wonderful. the prices on the regular menu seem to be at the high end of the scale range. the combo plates on the back page seemed to be at a reasonable price point. we ordered a chili colorado beef burrito, #15, chili rellano combo, #1, and a cheese enchilada combo, #4. all were excellent. a good selection of beers/wines/tequilas are available. the restaurant on tropical parkway is situated back in a corner of the shopping center. it's a short walk from the parking lot. no parking directly in front of the restaurant.

bueno!!!. warning: wear your stretchy pants. the complimentary soup is quite good. i had the completely unpronounceable gallo al chipotle estilo
"parangaricutirimicuaro". it was a mouthful, both in name and in quantity. the chipotle flavor was delicious. their salsa is good too!
