mezcal is as good as it gets.... we sat out on the patio on a beautiful night....my wife had the pork with the estafado mole, my son (who is 7, but very adventurous) had the chicken with the estafado mole, and i had the pork with the coloadito mole...we all loved it!. the moles were flavorful and unique, the meat was prepared perfectly, and the oaxacan cheese was great...the rice and black beans were nicely paired with the regional dishes.

the moles are made with an experienced hand, and it shows, they are delicious! the margaritas were also worth mentioning, there was no mix in these, they were perfectly sweetened and had plenty of repasado tequila in them....

the only thing that outshined the food and drink was the people, the staff were courteous and the gentleman running the place was great. the moles are his mothers, and his gracious manner and detailed explanation of the menu and tradition exemplified their commitment to oaxacan cuisine, and the food shows it!

go to mezcal now, you won't be disappointed....my only disappointment is that i had to go back to texas and won't be able to get back to mezcal sooner!

excellent food, fantastic service! i went early (6pm) before it was busy and, as a first timer, got lots of attention. info about oaxacan cuisine, mole samples, rum sample, everything was fresh and delicious, not at all heavy and greasy like the chain restaurants.

i just had to try the fried grasshoppers (chapulines) and so we did. it was better than i expected, a strange aftertaste but pretty good with the chips and salsa. the grasshoppers were fried so they were pretty crispy and lime so it is really tangy. the chips were good!! reminded me of the ones we get at mi pueblo. the guacamole was not bad but nothing exciting and too runny (my personal preference is chunky guacamole)

fantastic sea bass. the owner took the time, with a near capacity crowd, to walk me through mezcal's dishes as well as follow-up throughout the meal. his recommendation of grilled sea bass was perfect. their mole sampling was wonderful, and i enjoyed the sweet estofado mole most of all. while my slow carb diet should have made me ask for a substitute for the rice, i would have missed the flavorful oaxacan spices. capping the meal, adolfo gomez brought a chocolate from his home province. the consistency and flavor, unlike our tame domestic chocolate varieties, was a great way to end the meal.

horrific all around. bad service, dry, bland food. the chicken enchilada is served deconstructed and the chicken was so dry it tasted like card board. the mole negro was bland and boring. i would not ever go back.

comida autentica!. i am so happy to have a place to go to for my oaxacan food withdrawls. the food here is mexican though most familiar with the typical fare you find in most places may get confused. it's refreshing to see a place focused on one region. and the food is like you would find in oaxaca. the moles, the beans, enfrijoladas, the tlayudas taste as if they came from someone's family kitchen in oaxaca city. you can even get champulines if you feel like being truly athentic!
