located in mornington peninsula, merricks creek winery cellar door is a family run winery boasting a 5 star rating by james halliday.

owner and winemaker, peter parker's passion for pinot noir translates to a wonderful selection of high quality vintages (with its very first vintage of pinot noir attracting a score of 96 from james halliday in 2001).

the cellar door is chic and modern with clever use of textures including hues of stone and timber. the stunning vineyard is simply a sensational backdrop whilst enjoying rustic shared dishes on the raised deck.

we loved the variety of share plates on offer - simple but absolutely delicious. the menu offer

sunday lunch in november with a companion. what an amazingly beautiful experience - i cannot recommend this place highly enough. we had a bottle of wine plus an assortment of tasting plates including a potato and cheese concoction, duck tagine and goats cheese. everything was delicious and interesting with fresh ingredients and generous portions. very friendly service, an amazing view and reasonable prices.

lovely to sit under the trees with our dogs, enjoy an excellent coffee and a delicious glass of pinot noir and a nice snack plate. lovely dessert of passion fruit tart with fresh cream and another of deconstructed tiramisu ... only complaint is vegetarian options are limited.

small snack style meals. we ordered a bit of everything for lunch and the quality was amazing. the smoked salmon terrine was a welcome surprise as it was my first time having a terrine but the cheese and salmon was a delicous combination. the other dishes, such as the goats curd with ciabatta and grilled tomatoes was so amazing, the tomatoes just popped in your mouth and the crunchy, salty ciabatta with the creamy goats curd was a match made in heaven. for dessert we had the deconstructed tiramisu, which was a bit overpowering for some but for those who like a very strong liquor-coffee taste (which my mum does), this would be the dessert for you. the white chocolate mousse with fresh passionfruit was one of my highlight dishes, the white chocolate was fluffy and melted in my mouth, not too sweet either. we were also blown away by the friendliness and amazing service of the staff, who were both efficient and conversational. a wonderful experience.

surrounded by rows of beautiful vines, the newly added cellar door to merricks creek wines is the perfect balance of sophistication and homeliness. after all, it was once the living room of the parker family, who have been running this wine business for 15 years now. on visiting, one might be lucky enough to be served by the enthusiastic sam, the son of the family that owns merricks creeks wines. moving away from simply supplying their wines to restaurants, the newly opened cellar door is sam’s dream, accompanied by his sister georgia and her partner, his dad peter (the wine-maker) and mum georgina (the chef). for an 18 year old boy, sam knows a lot about wine and the pride he feels in his family business is charming. he has grown up making wine since the vineyard began producing pinot noir in 2001- make sure you check out the sweet photos of he and his sister running through the estate as little children. his passion for wine-making and the new dining offering at such a young age is energetic and inspiring, and it is clear that with his families support his dream is on its way to becoming a reality.

though the family has fifteen years of winemaking to its name, the cellar door has been open just a month. it’s an impressive feat. the service is really special, helmed by patriarch peter (yes, peter parker; a whole new light is shed upon those glossy white webs splayed across the vineyard) who delights in sharing his family’s work. the food is simple and delicious and made for picking at between mouthfuls of wine. the cellar door is already busy, but in a way that feels like a cosy and beloved local haunt.

posted by chasing a plate in mornington peninsula, victoria on 03/03/2016. chasing a plate dined as guests of merricks creek. the mornington peninsula just got a little bit better with the recent opening of merricks creek’s cellar door. this family run vineyard which produces startling drinkable chardonnay and pinot noir is the epitome of simple pleasures. when you want to avoid being enclosed in a vineyard restaurant facing a degustation menu then merricks creek is the place for you.

one of my favourite day or weekend trips out of melbourne is the mornington peninsula. it’s a diverse region, full of pristine beaches, great surf and a burgeoning food scene, brimming with top quality restaurants and picturesque wineries. and just over an hour from the city, it makes the perfect weekend escape.

this is the heart warming story of one man’s dream to bring families together over a shared meal, a brilliant drop of wine – whilst bringing italy into your own backyard. don’t believe me? read on. when i received a request to complete a review for merrick’s creek, i was stunned. having spoken to a work colleague about their favourtie drop, it left me shocked and a little humbled to have them reach out to me.

i was recently invited to taste the wines and sample share plates at merricks creek wines by the delightfully hospitable parker family. what i discovered was surprising and exciting. the 2013 pinot noir was simply one of the best i've tasted on the mornington peninsula and the reasonably priced share plates were created with care, fresh ingredients and presented with impeccable style. this boutique cellar door offers a fresh new opportunity to get away from the madding crowds so often found on the peninsula and enjoy landscape, fine wine, friendly faces and fine food. love it!
