i had supper this evening with my friend, maureen.

we met at one of her favourite restaurants, mediterraneo family restaurant.

we both had chicken souvlaki. i had mine without salad. i love greek food and haven't had it for a while. this was good and i cleaned my plate.

panagiotis was our server. he was friendly and took good care of us.

we were in kitchener and one of us who works near to mediterraneo suggested we go for a quick bite.

the restaurant was not busy on a saturday afternoon and we quickly seated. the interior is nicely decorated and felt as if we're in greece.

the waitress was top notch in service, i must add. we ordered two veg moussakas, one greek omlet and one veg fettuccine between the five of us.

the moussakas come with a greek salad and a serving of lentil rice. the veggies (eggplants, potatoes in tomato sauce) is covered with bechamel sauce. the veggies and sauce are delicious is the star of this dish. the salad was great, but normally we request that they go light on the dressing - which we didn't - and hence the dressing was a bit too much. the rice perfectly cooked with lentils and onions, but again too greasy for our taste.

the fettuccine comes with veggies which was a welcome change and went perfectly with the noodles. there is garlic bread and parmesan cheese on the side, again a welcome change as we don't like too much parmesan cheese.

the greek omlet is different and actually works well - rather than wrapped as served elsewhere, here it is mixed and omlet is actually a bit firm than the fluffy which i was used too. a bit too much salt, but i guess feta cheese did it. also comes with a pita bread ( a welcome change rather than bread) and greek salad.

we were thinking of trying the mojito cheese cake, but sadly they were out of it.

perhaps next time - surely will visit the next time we are in kw

food was great. wait was over 1.5 hours to get our dinner! waitress did not even deliver the appetizers until i went to ask after 1 hour for them and to bring out the kid's meal. she seemed to rush by our table several times. and our table was not the only patrons waiting for their food. we understood the kitchen was busy and we waited patiently, but we think it is unacceptable for the waitress not to come over in that first hour once to say what the wait was or enquire if we needed anything.

the food was delicious and just kept coming. so many dishes can't recall all of them but all were cooked to perfection. my wife and i will definitely be returning for another authentic greek meal.

easter long weekend!. my husband and i decided to order out as we celebrate easter a week later (orthodox) and didn't have a big feast waiting for us. we decided to try something new and had a craving for greek. we're originally from toronto and are very familiar with where to order when we're there, but the only place we have tried in the kw area was a place located at ottawa and fisherhall man and it was terrible! so we were very hesitant to give greek food another try in a small city.

but i am so happy we took the chance. it was exactly what we wanted. both being european we know what good food is and our expectations were extremely high when ordering something "authentic". my husband ordered the pork souvlaki which came with three large potatoes; rice; greek salad; tzatziki sauce (which was literally a tsp so he was pretty upset about that because the meat was dry and he said he probably wouldn't order the same thing again)...but he would definitely rate the rest of the food 4/5.

i ordered the pork tenderloin and...it was delicious!! hands down amazing. the first bite gave me such a smile!! the only problem i found with my order is that the potatoes were a tad too salty and i love salty food but it went a little overboard. i would also give it 4/5.

best greek food. it's the only place i go to for greek food. i've been to other greek restaurants, in vancouver even, and couldn't find anything as good for the reasonable price they offer here. great atmosphere and great service too.

great greek. awesome!!!!!!!!! everytime!!!!!!!!! service has always been excellent.this is our greek go to place.

this is totally not intentional as this is sequentially the next post, but i'm going to keep the kebab streak going. this time it's greek food. i had the souvlaki shish kebab, described as world famous souvlaki (i had the pork), marinated on a skewer served with greek salad, roast potatoes, rice and tzatziki sauce ($14.95). the souvlaki was good and juicy, but the potatoes were a bit plain and i could have used more tzatziki. this place is suppose to be one of the best greek places in waterloo and while that may be true, i think places in toronto are better. mike and maggie tried the ribs and although i tried some, i can't remember whether it was any good.

worst service and server ever..adding insult to injury. after waiting 15 minutes to order drinks, we had enough time to order drinks and food together. took another 15 minutes to get the drinks and 1 1/2 hours to get the food. the server never came back to explain the delay, ask if we wanted any more drinks etc. the orders came out at different times so we never got to eat together. i asked if the kitchen shared the tips she said yes, i said we're sending a message with no tip. she started to cry and said that it wasn't her fault and that she would pray for us in church (over and over again) like now it's our fault....trying to put the blame on us for the lack of service. she needs to go and the kitchen staff needs some serious training on how to get food out in an orderly fashion.

each plate was overflowing with greek goodness. since we were a chatty bunch, they gave us time to chat, knowing we would take longer to eat. i had the pork souvlaki with that sweet, sweet tzaziki sauce. yum. a few people ordered the chicken bellissimo and did not speak for the whole meal, because it was so good. when asked if they enjoyed it, all i got was 'mmmmmmm.'
