well, i enjoyed the the food but the waitstaff seemed very impersonal , and the salad came out with the meal,( after 15 min. ) witch i hate . they do have a good selection of beer , but there is no shortage of that in portland ! probably won't stop here again , and i eat out for all 3 meals a day portland has so much great food and bevies there is no need to cater to a place that thinks they have a monopoly on brewpubs .

great beers and service but limp fries. we've been to many mcmenamins over the years but this one is the most frequented. this evening we were on a "date night" and got parking right up front, not always the case. there were several booths open, again not always the case, so we sat at one and before long a waiter came over to took our drink orders. we had the nebraska bitter and despite the name, it was not bitter, but rather a clean nice flavor ale that we both enjoyed. why, is the beer on nitro, always some dark beer, like a porter or stout? i love beer on nitro, but i don't drink dark beers except in cold weather. we ordered the cajun chicken cobb salad and a dungeon burger with "crispy fries." the cajun chicken was not at all overly spicy, just tasty and although the salad was fine, the blue cheese and bacon crumbles were a little light in my opinion. the portion was filling, but to be honest, for the money, i could have gotten a much larger cobb salad on denny's or elmer's for about the same price. but i couldn't have had it with one of the mcmenamins super beers. the burger was perfect, but as per our usual experience at any mcmenamins, the fries were anything but crispy. i've even gone so far as to email the cooperate office concerning the lack of crispy fries and was told at the time, that the fries are meant to be crispy. typical, the office says one thing, but what you experience in the pub is not the same. we asked our server about this issue and he very nicely told us that since the oil is used for multiple foods, if it was hot enough to cook the fries crispy, it would burn something like the tater tots. we understood, but still, we prefer crispy fries. this is why i order the tots now, they are always perfect.
our server was excellent as is our usual experience. prices have gone up in the last year at all mcmenamins and the menus have fewer items to select from, but we love their beers and will continue to walk in, drink and eat.

had the smoked pork sandwich and black bean soup with a flight of tasters. happy to report that this brewpub doesnt suffer from the common problem of all their beers tasting much the same. i loved some and hated some. the food was excellent and they're not afraid of spicing their food strongly like many places in northern usa. well done.
