max lager's wood-fired grill & brewery

great experience tonight!!! we had a disappointing experience last night in downtown and was sceptical about going out. but i can truly say you won't be disappointed. jeffrey, our server, was brilliant and spot on with his recommendations. best smoked pork chop ever, best southern fried chicken, best baby back ribs per my 7yo and the fried cheesecake and vanilla bean was the best we have had anywhere!! i will come by every time now if we stay in downtown!! keep it up!!

did not disappoint. the creole bbq shrimp dish was perfectly spiced (with a good kick!) and the cheesy grits were a great pairing. my only complaint is needing more bread to soak up that delicious sauce.

after leaving another downtown atlanta eatery due to an extreme lack of service, our party of 3 was pleased to wander into max lager's. excellent service from the hostess stand to the wait staff. memphis-style ribs were amazing, and a companion loved her filet mignon. we also had the most-excellent fried cheesecake (sounds like a state fair train wreck, i know...but was 100% amazing). loved max lager's so much, we're going back tomorrow!

great atmosphere and food. i've wanted to eat here for a long time and finally went for lunch recently. it didn't disappoint. granted, we ordered some basic stuff, but i really enjoyed it. the atmosphere was really nice but casual, the service was great, and my turkey sandwich and vegetable was really good. the beers aren't bad. it's not the best microbrewery in the world but still very good. i don't know why this place doesn't have a higher rating. i would recommend and am looking forward to going back.

i had salmon and it smelled fishy. the guys ordered steak and said it was dry. it was also not cooked to the level of doneness they ordered. plus, the prices for steak were quite high - this is a $$$ restaurant in my opinion.

good menu. food was perfectly fine. service was above average.

the food and the service were both excellent! we will absolutely return at some point. one word of caution - the $$ is a bit misleading. you can get dinner for that, but my party of three adults spent $130 without drinking. all three had steaks and dessert, with one shared appetizer. worth it, but be forewarned.

very nice atmosphere, not a sports bar! great service. we did not drink the beer but had a fine bottle of cline vinphandel for $27, it was nice. the pork chop was fantastic, really try it the flavors pop! suprise there are pool tables upstairs in the brewery. love this place.

great craft beer, good food. go to max's for the beer, but stay for the food. bison burger - good. oatmeal stout - great.

we ate here out first night in town at the recommendation of our hotel. my husband and i both had the max burger and fries. good food cooked to order and had fast service from the kitchen staff. our only complaint was the lack if attention we received from our server. we were 1 of her 2 tables (the place was not busy as it was sunday night) and we had to constantly flag her down to get drink refills, order dessert, etc. we could see her charting with other employees at the bar and with the hostess. so strange. i figured she would know this would decrease her tip. i hope your experience is better.

this restaurant has a really nice atmosphere and their food was really good. definitely a place to try if you haven't already!

off night - i'm not so sure?. i spent considerable time searching for a downtown spot to bring colleagues while at a conference and thought max's would be the place. i made a reservation for last night online - but they called me in the afternoon to verify that i was coming. seemed strange, but that was just the beginning of a less than enjoyable experience. they were "out of most of the bottled beers" leaving you to drink their own brews. all tasted hoppy and my party even returned two because they were just not good. the 'foccacia' that is listed on the menu is merely a pizza crust baked and the filet mignon that i had was horrible (undercooked and a big streak of grizzle running right through the middle). another in my party received a salad that looked like it had sat out all day and was showing the rust. all in all, not a good experience. it could have been an off night - let's hope so.
