love it. really good italian food. i always get the same things when i go there. i love the tuscan salad. it's mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette, fresh mozzarella, olives, tomatoes and polenta croutons. the best pasta is the penne al buttero. it's penne in a tomato parmigiana cream sauce with peas and spicy sausage that's baked in the pizza oven. i always get the amaretto chocolate covered bocci ball with zabliogne for desert.

if you like italian this is the place. probably the best in the valley

worst experience ever

i kept explaining to the waitress how hungry i was and how i needed the meal soon. she ignored my request and did not put my meal on time

still waiting for my food and it's been an hour

i will never come here again and never recommend this place to anyone

italian maybe?. lunch for two, seated promptly and order taken quickly. service was attentive but uneven. quick - then absent - then back with wedges of flat bread - then back with wine - then absent - etc. spouse had eggplant lasagna [said it had a strange consistency] i had chicken parmigianino with a side of spaghetti [both hot and tasty]. ordered the house salad split for two $8.95, and one glass of chianti $8.50; total w/o tip $44.77. altogether an enjoyable experience for me and less so for the spouse. i would go back if in the area, but the wife would rather go elsewhere.

we have always enjoyed a very pleasant dining experience at each of the max's....they are consistently our favorites!

terrible service. food is not worth the price. horrible manager.. i was charged $19 for a salad at dinner and belittled by the manager when i discussed the alarming check that was given to me. i ordered the tuscan salad, which is listed on the menu as $7.95, along with salmon (not thinking it would be any more than $4-5). i heard from friends that the salad was good and decently priced.

after receiving the check i called the waitress over and explained to her that there must be a mistake. she explained that my salad was an entree, and therefore $10.95 instead (this was not listed on the menu or explained to me upon ordering) and the salmon was $8. she said there was nothing she could do about it, but could get the manager for me.

the manager explained that they don't have it listed on the menu, but her "customers have been coming to the restaurant for over 20 years and [they] have the understanding that they may get charged a little more than what is listed on the menu for a salad," and that they "don't encourage salads on the menu because the chefs really don't appreciate when guests order them."

apparently the salad is listed on their lunch menu for $15, which the manager did end up giving to us. however, it was an extremely demeaning conversation and i should not have to advocate for myself when a different price was listed. i will not be going back to the restaurant ever again. i am also sharing my story with friends and family so they are aware of the manager's condescending attitude in hopes they will choose not to support a business that is run in such a way.

wonderful food. after a recent bad food experience at another local place, my friends and i decide to try max's restaurant in avon. i am so glad we did. it was a wonderful experience, the wait staff was very well trained and anticipated our every need. i had never been before and found the food wonderful, i found that their middle of the road wine stood up to some of the fancier labels i enjoy. i look forward to the next time my friends and i are in that area, a wonderful experience.
