stayed at the hard rock and had to try this place for breakfast. my friend and i love to go 50/50 to enjoy a variety so we tried the burrito and carne asada eggs benedict. they were both heavenly but if we had to pick one it would have been the burrito. it was worth every penny!

came here for breakfast when staying at the hard rock. even though the restaurant is very big,  we had to wait a while for a table as they were short staffed so could not use every section of the restaurant which is a pity. i had a bagel breakfast with a side of bacon, and really enjoyed it ! the orange juice is delicious as well. a bit pricey, but a really great looking place and tasty breakfast.

maryjane's is a fun and hip cafe.  we love, love, love this place!! (http://hardrockhotelsd.com/dining-&-nightlife/maryjanes) at first glance...there are not a lot of gluten-free things on the menu.  however, they are very accommodating and sensitive to gluten problems.  the omelettes are beyond amazing!! the french fries are delicious and the lettuce-wrapped burgers are supreme...not to mention the out of this world potato pancakes.  when you head to this spectacular destination in san diego's famous gaslamp district be sure to let the server know that you need gluten-free accommodations.  they will be happy to comply. check this place out, you will not regret it. mary jane's all day menu: ( http://hardrockhotelsd.com/pdfs/mj_allday.pdf ). pics: rock on!!!

recently i was invited by the pr rep for maryjane's coffee shop at the hard rock hotel to come down for a special media dinner to showcase their new chef and some new additions to their restaurant's menu. jake and i went down on a thursday night with a bunch of other media guests for a lovely 5 course dinner to sample and try out. we usually don't dig going downtown for much, but our visit to maryjane's was pleasant and the food was excellent. check it out below! this is the menu that we had to look forward to that evening. since i knew we were having five courses, i had to pace myself. and drink plenty of water. this picture cracks me up because jake is showcasing the water like one of those girls on the price is right. our first course was the hummus and pita bread . this came with two kinds of hummus - the traditional (back of the photo) garbanzo bean and garlic hummus along with a southwestern black bean hummus. jake, who doesn't like hummus, preferred the black bean version. while

good food, great service, expensive though. staying at the hard rock this is obviously a very convenient option but not the only one. i have had breakfast and dinner there and both times, service was prompt and courteous - even funny. the coffee is good and i am picky about coffee. food is very good diner food and i have to say one of the few places i have ever been to that actually cooked the burger as i ordered it. the mary jane martini is a nice take on a martini and they use my favorite vodka - bong! pot brownie - well if you don't like brownies, don't order it. it is a very good brownie served warm with vanilla ice cream - definitely sweet and chocolatey!

i'll refrain from a rating and just skip to the review. not bad, but not good. since i was staying at the hard rock, i gave it a few chances. service was inconsistent. it very much seemed dependent on the time of day and staff. in that respect, it reflects poorly on the management. i enjoyed my food (when i got it), but didn't care for the coffee much - which surprised me at a "coffee shop". again, the food was actually pretty good, but until they work out some managment/service issues, maryjane's kind of leaves you flat.

cute concept poorly carried out.... service was friendly, sorta, but very slow. the omelet was better described as overcooked scrambled eggs. the pancakes were literally charred. the "almost famous" biscuit has been topped easily by pillsbury in many-an-oven. the "expansive selection" of syrup was 1) ms butterworths and 2) aunt jemima. not that i require more but this place simply did not deliver on any level. disappointing at best and compounded by being way overpriced. $69 for brunch for 3, ouch. don't go.
