i first tried their other branch in makati, and back then, i ordered the 400-gram steak for 1990.
i decided to try mamou's original branch and order the 600-gram, 28-day dry aged ribeye. i had high expectations, but these expectations were not met. mashed potatoes were ok. they tasted very similar to the bland ones served at wolfgang's. steak rice was again, boring and forgettable. to me, it tasted like rice and soy sauce with some oil? lorenzo's truffle cream, in my opinion, tasted so much better than the steak. not the best truffle pasta, but i appreciate the simple taste. now, the steak. okay, the "funky" taste of dry aged meat was there. i'll give a point for that, but it was tough. partner and i wasted around 4 slices of steak because we could not even chew the steak. we had our steak medium rare~medium, but the experience was appalling. i do not understand why some claim that mamou houses one of the best steaks in manila. i disagree very much.
two other things that caught my attention: ny cheesecake (no sugar added) is overpriced. i've had better cheesecakes priced at 295 tops. i do not get it. second, we felt awkward because the supervisor kept walking around the very small restaurant. i get it, she's the manager/supervisor, but for us, we felt like we were having an exam or undergoing paascu accreditation. it was so hard to bear tbh. no problems about the friendliness of staff though. will i come back? tricky, but probably not.
