great lunch... chicken carbonara was great ... sauce creamy without being heavy... pasta cooked perfect al dente. also had a chicken special with zucchini and red peppers in a pink sauce... super yummy .... hard to say which was best since both were so good. fast friendly service too

richmonds best. in my opinion, ( i have been in food service for over 35 years all around the country) this is richmonds best italian food!!

seems like a nice place, but entrees are expensive! more than $15 each.

phenomenal! my first visit was just after 8pm as a solo on a thursday evening (dining room photo was taken at closing) mama cucina is the real deal! excellent italian cuisine! warm atmosphere and friendly service. the cold calamari salad was, well - perfect! tender and a huge portion, as was the veal. this restaurant is suited for everyone. the young couple seated near me were also excited to have discovered this authentic jewel, and i heard a table of businessmen rave about their dinners. word to the wise - per manager joseph - make a reservation, but still be prepared to patiently wait! scoring a table will be worth your time!

make a reservation, this place is small but well worth the wait. very large portions. had the cold calamari salad appetizer! the house salad had an amazing dressing. entrees was huge and extremely tasty. had ample to take home for a midnight snack/breakfast.

great italian food! a hidden gem in richmond! each meal is definitely big enough for 2 or you'll bring home leftovers. absolutely delicious and worth a visit!

rudest waitress ever!! i arrived a little after 8:00 pm to find a handwritten note on the door that read "closed for party but takeout still available". while i was standing at the door reading the menu to decide what to order to go, a waitress came past, lit cigarette in hand, crushed it out at my feet without even a "hello", or a "can i place a takeout order for you this evening?" and proceeded inside, spun on her heels and locked the door in my face! it was so rude that it made my son and i laugh. you couldn't pay me to return, ever. slam!!

excellent. you won't get better italian at this price anywhere else in richmond. shame the space is so small!

the delicious aromas emanating from mama cucina lured me from my nearby hotel parking lot! the food, staff, and ambience did not disappoint. i ordered food "to go" and was it was delicious, even eaten in my hotel as a late supper.
the farfalle with shrimp and peas in a walnut cream was seasoned just right. the house salad that came with it was a bit dull in terms of minimal ingredients, but it was fresh and crisp with a tangy balsamic vinaigrette.
i will be back!

homemade sausage. omylord! absolutely theee best!!! your mouth waters just from the smell...and then that first taste, sends your tastebuds to heaven!!! i've only eaten lunch here a bunch of times.

best pasta i've ever had!. their vodka sauce pasta was the best i've ever had and so much food i had left overs and they were even better cold!

bad service, great food. i've never experienced such a bad service at a restaurant before. waitress was the worse. didn't take drink orders, almost threw the bread at our table, never asked us if we needed anything, we asked for more water and parmesan cheese and she got mad, took my plate away and i wasn't even done with it. worst server in the world, made the experience awful. although the food is great.

disappointing. my wife and i went to mama cucina for a nice romantic dinner on a quiet weeknight, it took almost 15 minutes for someone to first come to our table and take our wine order, we then ordered appetizers, salad and our main course. the salad came first, wilted and some rotten patches, the tomatoes were mushy almost going bad, so we sent it back, told them its ok, we will just move on to the appetizers. to our surprise our main course then comes almost 5 minutes after we sent the salad back, the pasta was overcooked and mushy and the veal dish was definitely not prepared fresh, was tough like shoe leather. we asked why our appetizers were skipped, the waitress responded that we did not order any. we asked for our bill and they had charged everything even though we complained, we paid but believe me, visa will be getting a call to dispute this charge. there are way too many nice italian restaurants to have to put up with such awful food and service.
