a nice improvement over the previous tenant, with a more limited menu but a focus on freshness. the texmex standards with a few mexican dishes as well.
guacamole is excellent, prepared fresh per order. the complementary chips are thin, crisp, and flavorful, with an excellent red "hot sauce" plus a nice fresh green salsa with a strong kick. they also provide tasty hot fresh housemade flour tortillas with butter. i meant to ask if i could have gotten corn tortillas instead.
enchiladas are very good. yellow cheese, topped with a nice red chile con carne sauce, a bit different than the usual chili gravy. i requested one with queso rather than chile, and they topped it with more shredded cheese instead of chile con queso. i'll make sure it's right next time. a tamale with the same chile con carne was delicious, a more traditional texmex version than usually found these days, meaning more meat than masa. very good homemade rice and beans accompany.
i have strong opinions on chile rellenos. mama cuca has two kinds, either stuffed with cheese, beef or chicken fajitas. i generally dislike the battered rellenos, especially those with thick eggy coating. if you like these kind they got a huge version of it. they also have a grilled version, a huge poblano cooked on an open flame, stuffed with white cheese and fajitas, and it is perfectly rich and smoky and savory, without any eggy awfulness to interfere, and no raisins and pecans either.
friendly attentive service.
a great addition to mansfield dining especially when you got that hankering for texmex.
