everything from beginning to end was fantastic.

staff is extremely attentive, and the chef makes a great effort to walk around the restaurant and make sure everything is perfect. truly remarkable service and love put into the dining experience.

food was equally delicious. we loved the chili lamb chops (entree), the chicken saag, and the seafood dishes (fish curry is a must!).

we will absolutely be back many times.

it's not hard to find an indian restaurant in sydney but it's hard to find one that makes such good dosai as malabar. the wrap was unbelievably thin, crispy and melted in your mouth. i had chicken filling which was well seasoned and tasty. the portion was very generous too. it was the best dosai i had. probably will go back soon again.

visited sydney with my parents, just came across this busy indian restaurant across the street, thought i'd try,
one of the best decisions ever made 😍
food was amazing, the ambiance was given a retro indian look,
the chef came out, and was taking feedbacks personally from all the customers across the table. service was good, kinda pricey, but you get what you pay for,
value for money:3/5
ambiance:4/5
service:4/5
taste:5/5

visited malabar on a recent trip to sydney and we were super impressed. we went with the family and ordered to share. the dosai - lentil crepe - starters were really good and we love that there were vegetarian options - the potato one was delicious. for mains we once again shared and ordered a mix of curries for the table. they were all fantastic, well seasoned and not overly spicy. the portion sizes could've been a bit bigger but otherwise a wonderful meal.

this is a great place to go to in sydney if you are looking for indian cuisine. the peshvari naan bread was incredibly delicious and it seemed to compliment the fish curry. for desert, i ate pista and mango kulfi. overall, i was very impressed with this place.

glossy frontage and obliging staff but the food lets the place down ... badly. even before we had ordered our meal, a plate of soggy pappadums fried in rancid oil warned of trouble to come. the rest of the dishes all lacked taste and flair. there are plenty of neighbourhood places that deserve your money more.

really impressed by the venue and how well kept it is (yes, including the bathroom!). equally great is the service but did not enjoy the food there. was very disappointed to find out that samosa, parantha (kind of bread) and some other things on menu were frozen and not freshly made in the kitchen. wish i had known that before ordering!

i do not like to be critical, but as an indian, i would instead prefer to visit north indian on oxford street or maya on cleveland street. you dont get the good ambience of malabar at north indian but hey! you pay much less too. maya is a comparable venue both ambience and price wise but you get much better food.

fit for a maharajah. is this the best indian restaurant in sydney? i am yet to find a better one.

i have been enjoying malabar for years and i recently experienced their new location. what a delight, smart simple decoration that still retains the look and feel of the old site but modernised and crisp.

the food, as always, was brilliant. if you have not been here do yourself a favour and have the lamb dossai and the goat mapas is fantastic.

with each new arrival there is a chorus of greetings, the kind you reserve for old friends. it’s clear that despite moving a few doors up the road, malabar darlinghurst has retained its loyal regulars, and they seem delighted with the new setting. they should be; it’s thoughtfully renovated with great attention to detail, down to wall-sized murals, and plentiful air conditioning vents. and unlike the former space that owner and chef mohammed sali occupied since 2003, the new space is drowning in natural light with city skyline views. the menu has made the hop as well, preventing unrest from those malabar regulars. mohammed squeezes a few new south indian dishes onto his chef’s specials, including kovalam barramundi ($14)...

great!!!. we live near the area so nipped into kings cross for food. fancied indian so with no recommendation tried the first we seen. i can honestly say it's one of the nicest indian restaurants i've been to in a while. the service was excellent making sure our drinks (including water) where topped up. the staff where excellent, and would recommend this place to anyone. now we know it's so close we'll definitely be back.

lovely food and service. i haven't been to many indian restaurants for its never my first pick when we eat out, but as my mil is a fan of it and she highly recommending this place, we came here for dinner tonight and as we had a toddler in tow we came early.

to start we tried their prawn dosai which was nice but prawns were tiny, so maybe next time we will try a different one, along with the spinach chaat, then we shared the beef vindaloo and their butter chicken with basmatic rice and naan bread. we tried their garlic naan and chili cheese naan which we found very spicy! (which we like but was quite surprised as the naan bread was spicier than the beef vindaloo). when the dishes came out, it looked very small but as they were rich in flavour we were all very full at the end. as it was byo $3 per person, we brought along a wine but also tried their mango lassi which was really refreshing, much needed for today's hot weather.

i loved every dish we ordered and the staff were lovely. even though i never really choose to go to indian restaurants as i have my other favourite cuisines, i really enjoyed tonight and want to come back to try their other menu items!

chef and owner mohammed sali and his team have been in the victoria street space for an impressive 11 years. later this year, they're planning a move up the road to bigger premises - judging by the full house and continuous flow of takeaway orders, it's not a bad idea. prawn dosai from malabar, victoria street, darlinghurst despite the cold outside, we couldn't resist a couple of mango lassis that were sweet with a vividly-coloured mango addition to the yoghurt drink. we had one of the restaurant's specialty  dosai as a shared entrée, as many tables appeared to be doing, opting for

came by last night for dinner and was disappointed. we ordered the goat mappas and the butter chiken with garlic naan.
all the dishes that came out were rather disappointing. for the goat mappa, we could not taste any spice beside for the coconut milk and sugar, the lamb/goat was not flavourful. this was the same with the butter chicken, the taste was bland and the chicken was, well chicken. from the dishes, it tasted like the chef cooked the meat and sauce seperately then put them together just before the food comes out. that would be alright if the meat was cooked with more flavors, but alas, it ended up tasting like meat braised in water with sweet coconut sauce poured over it.
