a very popular spot for a sunday brunch.  we enjoyed the quirky atmosphere along with some of the patrons in attendance.  the do it yourself bloody mary bar was a hit with the ladies and i really enjoyed the eggs benedict.  the hollandaise sauce was very favorable, light and with a little more zest that of a lemon than i am used too, that i enjoyed.

the food isn't good and they have rude doormen/bouncers. i don't see the point in choosing this place over others that are around here. even for drinks only, there are other options. i'd get a beer at gbd first (and fried chicken) or even dgs (has a few but good beers).

arranged brunch for 30 to 35. had a signed agreement. when we showed up they had set for 24. we asked them nicely to fix it. as our guests arrived and didnt have places to sit we talked to the manager. a rude inappropriate and surly response. after continued poor service one waitress for 35 we finally got not great food. as we paid our full bill and even tipped our overworked waitress extra the manager said i told you we would take of it and it would be good. he didnt and it wasnt.

fun place!. the meal started out with some homebrewed tea that took some getting used to. the more i drank of the little teacup, the more i liked it. i probably wouldn't be upset if i didnt get it next time though...

the breadbasket then came with citrus butter. kinda weird, not my "cup of tea" for lack of a better expression.

for an appetizer, we got the spinach and artichoke dip. it came with great crunchy bread, perfect for scooping. it wasn't what i expected and i probably would order a different appetizer next time.

dinner was burgers for both of us, both with caramelized onions and mushrooms. mom's burger had mozzarella cheese and mine had american, but the waiter (who took our orders without writing them down) mixed them up. i ordered medium rare and mom ordered well-done and he switched that up too...but we didn't realize it until we were almost done (that's how hungry we were!). but regardless of the mixup, the burgers were perfectly cooked and delicious.

after i showed off my mad hatter tattoo, we were treated to a free dessert of key lime tart. free or not, i've had better. i wasn't impressed with it. tasteless graham cracker crust and very very tart filling.

i will definitely come here again, though. i disagree with a lot of these reviews. the place did not come across as a bar, it was a very nice, clean restaurant with a great, friendly staff. i have no doubts that it probably turns into a raucous party after 10, but we were there at 630 on a wednesday in april. so no party for us.

food was decent but utinsils and glasses were clearly dirty. utinsils still had food residue and beer glasses were sticky. i will not be back.

not gluten free friendly. went here for brunch on a sunday, and when i asked for a gluten free menu (because they are listed here on urbanspoon as gluten free friendly), the hostess at the front did not even know what i was talking about. the server did a better job, tried to get her manager to come talk to us about the list of gluten free foods, but apparently he was too busy and she just had a list of things crossed off. eventually we found out their burgers were just meat and salt and pepper, so we ordered one of those... but they forgot and brought it with a bun. i was excited to have found a gluten free bunch place in dc, but we will have to keep looking.

madhatter is a remarkably fun little place in washington dc’s dupont circle district. the alice in wonderland theme manifests itself in large full-color images from lewis carroll’s classic story and a giant top hat above one entrance (see picture at bottom). in keeping with this theme, our waitress brought us all a small cup of the house tea — a gingery concoction that was mildly sweetened and surprisingly delicious (penultimate picture).

i had a great glass of their house cab sauv for $5 and bf opted for their $3 rail drinks – he said they were fairly strong. we were pretty hungry at this point so we split their $5 bar nachos and they were delicious. there was a ton of chili and they didn’t skimp on the guacamole, which i appreciated.

l'auberge chez francois: i fell in love at first taste , so i had to go back for seconds. l'auberge transports you to the hills of france and only gets better every time. i opted for most of the same dishes i tried before, but corey tried the lamb this time and it is amazing. enjoy the weather on the beautiful back patio and treat yourself to the charm of l'auberge. reston/herndon 332 springvale rd great falls , va 22066 www.laubergechezfrancois.com madhatter: chef freddie melgar joined madhatter to bring a little pizazz to the menu. sit out on the patio and enjoy the tuna sashimi with asian sesame vegetables and a cilantro vinaigrette. jack's slow roasted bbq pork sliders are delicious. the menu still has your old favorites, but it is now brightened up with some new delights. dupont circle 1321 connecticut ave nw washington , dc 20036 www.madhatterdc.com ripple : when the chocolate chip cookie and milk craving strikes, head to ripple for the comfort of chef logan cox's warm treats tha

great service, food and drinks. this has been one of my favorite dc bars for the past several years, because of the good beer selection (a few goose islands are always on draft there) and fun atmosphere. so i decided to have my 30th birthday bash there in one of the vip rooms with champagne, beer and birthday cake (of course). they happened to be short-staffed that night, so we didn't get a private bar/server of beers, as promised--in lieu of this, one of the general managers offered to treat my fiance and i to dinner on him/"the house"--dinner was excellent, and the server was terrific. thank you greg, we'll definitely be back for dinner and drinks soon, and will spread the good word about the 'hatter!

there are lots of choices on the menu that are much less than the $15-25 entrees. try the cheshire dog with its crispy bacon and honey mustard. a side of mac n cheese is very yummy and filling on its own but could use an option for tomatoes!
