one of the best pizza places in s.e.michigan. loui's pizza has historical roots stemming from buddy's as the original founder learned the ropes at buddy's and the went out on his own many many years ago. loui has created one of the best pizzas i've ever encountered anywhere, with distinctive light flaky dough and taste that is without rival even at buddy's. my favorite is everything with anchovies and green olives. the salads are also amazing, very generous portions for sure and the dressing is quite incredible. i'm still trying out the rest of the menu. the ambiance is nostalgic of late 20th century decor, and it's a lot of fun. this restaurant is definitely a destination even from 40 miles away. don't miss it.

the essential detroit-style pizza and has a bar.  it's a fun place to be.  parking is a challenge and there are wait times during peak hours, but it's definitely worth it if you like the detroit pizza experience:  beer, sicilian-style pan pizza with great side salads.

the best detroit style pizza. recently enjoyed a carry out from loui's and they again proved to be the best of the detroit style pizza makers. the pizza has the best sauce, a crisp and chewy crust and the most cheese. all other toppings are generously applied as well. they may not get the attention of their competitors but if you want the best this is it!

after a few months of arguing about who had the best pizza, my girlfriend and i went to loui's and she proved me wrong! this is my new favorite pizza place ever! everything about the pizza was good, there were no weak points between the cheese, crust, and sauce. you can tell they only use the best ingredients. we will definitely be going back for more!

delicious and filling.. one piece of pizza is equal to three. it is so filling. kinda pricey, but worth it. a small is enough for two people, easily. if you're looking for the best pizza in town, loui's is where you can find it.

the fettuccine alfredo of pizzas. loui's is the pizza i seek out when i don't care if i have a 5000 calorie meal. this is the fettuccine alfredo of pizzas, meaning it's rich, rich, rich. it's one of the three best pizzas in the detroit area. the other two are buddy's and cloverleaf. buddy's and cloverleaf are not as heavy, rich and dense, but if you really want to indulge and live it up, this is the heavy hitter. the capaletti soup is hard to find and a rare treat. the antipasto salad also is tops.

good, but beware. best of the buddy's/shields type deep-dish square pizzas. it's the delicious, thick crunchy tasty crust. yummm. ya gotta taste it to appreciate it.

but beware, make sure you order off a menu, and get one of the pre-set deals, because if you don't and you order whatever items you prefer, they charge a lot more, even for "only on one half of the pizza" items. we were charged almost $30 for a pizza that should have cost less than $20, over the phone, had we known better. and, they don't list their prices online. bad bad bad for that.
but good pizza.

classic pizza!!. what can i say? this place is a detroit classic. friend put me on loui's a few years ago and i owe him for that. they are the epitome of "detroit style pizza." yes thats right, the d has their own style and louis nails it! this pizza was so good in fact i made my own home version of it. louis is similar to buddys and shields.

big let-down. after all we heard about this place it was not good in our experience. we had a pizza and found it bland, bordering on un-edible. yeah, the chianti bottles were kinda kitschy, but we will never go back. more power to the supposed 90 some percent that do like it, you can have it and the horrid long island i had. my wife's red wine could almost be bested by mad dog. seriously..

louis pizza hazel park cheating customers. i have dined at louis pizza for the last 34 years and have gone out of my way to go there to get the best pizza in town. after last night, louis is no longer on my best pizza restaurant list. i brought my 81 year old aunt there it was her first time and what a let down. first of all it was cold in the restaurant when we asked the waitress about it she said that "the heat was not even on and that if they turn it on the customers complain they are hot. " i believe the temperature outside last night was 23 degrees. needless to say we kept our coats on most of the time we were there. we ordered our usual antipasti salad and large pizza. when we got our pizza, it looked really thin and the toppings were sparse. we cut into it and it was quite thin not the usual awesome deep dish pizza that we drive out of our way for. when we asked the waitress about it she said, "oh nothing has changed. i said it is different we have been coming to this place since 1977, again she said "nothing has changed, same cook, same place, same everything." its made exactly the same. we paid $40.00 for our meal and feel very cheated. i won't be bragging about louis any more.

didn't live up to the hype. we got there on a fri night around 8 so we expected it to be busy but only waited about 10 minutes to get a table. the waitress was "east coast" and didn't care if we were there or not. this is the prototypical argument against the silly tipping expectation we have in america but that's another story.

anyway, we ordered two large square deep dishes, a hawiian and one pepperoni with mushrooms. we waited about 30 minutes but can't knock them for this since it was a busy friday night.

the pizza was a jeckyl and hyde on every level. i'm gonna break the pizza into two parts:

outside half of slice: crispy, greasy but not too greasy, browned cheese, limp sauce but otherwise good. i couldn't even tell there was pineapple on the hawiian but there was lots of gooey cheese.

inside half of slice: sad and limp. undercooked, doughy, soupy. they put the pepperoni underneath the cheese so the meat at the center was barely cooked through. the mushrooms are canned and in the center they were like warm jell-o. all that cheese that was great when baked well at the edges was a big lump of melted cheese over the soupy sauce and pineapple juice over dough in the center. the sauce had little flavor.

the atmosphere is 50's supper club which i find attractive but the combination of the jeckyl and hyde pizza with mediocre staff means i can't give it a great rating.
