we live behind eric's and drove out here. saturday evening @ 630p and the only other person there was a soldier picking up a go order. we mentioned it was our 1st time there and she gave us the "ok" sign, this is the real thing.

four of us had flautas, chicken with mole' (yum), mofongo with onion steak (least favorite), and taco salad (teenager). three drank water or soda while my wife has a red wine that tasted like akadama (plum wine). chips were probably fried to order and the salsa was excellent!

go here and support this authentic family restaurant. we'll drive past eric's to eat here again.

the food is awesome! (i've been to mexico and lived in el paso for two years.) no liquor, just beer/wine. i was concerned because no one was there, and it's really just a hole in the wall. like i said, the food was amazing. i want to go back!

the most authentic caribbean i've had since...well the caribbean. i just moved to the area from charleston and was trying to look for a place to grab a beer and some pub food on a random monday night, but stumbled upon this restaurant. it is not easy to find, just a discrete dimly lit sign above the restaurant and the open signs to let you know it actually is a restaurant. i saw the words "mexican and central american" cuisine written on a board outside and had to try it. i have done a ton of traveling throughout the caribbean (it was part of my job for a good while) and this was easily the most authentic caribbean cuisine i have had since living in the dominican republic a few years ago. i ordered #1 on the menu, which came with a very healthy helping of lightly fried pork, a rice meal, and fried ripe plantains. i have a good appetite and couldn't finish all of the food they gave me for $11. definitely get the green sauce on the side (a fresh tomatillo tasting sauce). i introduced myself to the owner jose and he was a very kind and interesting man. he had some trouble running the credit card and i didn't have cash, but he was totally fine with me running down the street to the atm. like i said before, i come from charleston so i have had my share of excellent cuisine. what i have found i appreciate the most in the food i order is not how expensive or elaborate the preparation is, but rather how authentic the meal is. its that simple. do yourself a favor even if you live downtown, and drive out to los bellos portales and eat some of the best caribbean food north of cuba. they apparently are at the soda city farmers market too which i wasn't aware of.

great food!. a group of us went here the other night because their line was so long at the latin festival (which already told me something about their food). the menu has a nice mix of latin american foods. they even have some vegetarian options upon request. i tried the cuban sandwich with tostones. both were very good. my only complaint is that the pictures on the menu could be of better quality to show off the food better. after seeing what my friends got, i will be back to try some other dishes. from what they said, the memelas, chuleta pr, and the mexican sandwich are also very good. the service is also excellent!
