it's pretty much the best cupcake shop in town. the actual cake is never dry like cakelove can be. and the icing is perfectly flavorful and just thick enough to top it off right. all the flavors are amazing and at $3 per cupcake you really can taste them all. for an amazing experience, however, i recommend the lemon cream, mexican chocolate, and/or the lavender tea and honey.

these are the best cupcakes in town. the menu changes regularly and everyone is delicious. you should definitely go to this place now. i love the buttercream icing and how moist the cupcakes are.

cupcakes were not overbearing in taste. the cake was a little more dense than expected, but it actually complimented the cupcake without making it way to rich. not a big selection but the gal was nice and the types were creative.

i’m officially back at work. and as i sit here after a long first day at school, it pleasures me to think back to the weekend and how we spent our last real weekend of summer… friday night, my best friend and her boyfriend came into town to spend the weekend. i haven’t seen her in what feels like years, and it was our first time meeting her other half. we ordered chinese from down the street at hunan cafe, and opened a bottle of wine to catch up. the chinese was good, though scott and i rarely ever order chinese so it was hard to compare. any suggestions on top notch chinese spots near old town? we’re all ears. saturday morning was my favorite part of the entire weekend: paddle boating in the tidal basin. it has been on our list of summer musts, but i was worried the summer would end and i would have to push it back another year. thankfully, the weather cooperated and we took to the boats and floated around the monuments. i swear, there is no view of this city like drifting along the p

pretty good. we stopped in here and had 2 of lemon lavender chiffon. ended up taking home 2 of the chocolate turtles with pecans and caramel and 1 smores. we liked them all just wish they would have put more pecans on/in the choc/trtl/pcn/crml.

i had a hard time picking a flavor here. the lavender moon cupcakery offers many original creations such as blood orange dreamsicle, tiramisu, or chocolate turtle. i forgot most of the names right away, because there are unfortunately no signs and the poor girl in the store had to go through each and every flavor with explanations of what the cupcakes were filled or decorated with. my brain only really registered about three of the approximately 12 different flavors of the day. and so i chose the peach & basil, one of their summer specials.

hands down, the best cupcakes in old town. they're the best, plain and simple. much, much better than the alexandria cupcakes. we go to this place about once a week and we've never had a bad batch. love their flourless chocolate cupcake, the sandy beach, and smore's cupcakes. i think the only negative review for them is probably from their competitor on king street (who's cupcakes blow chunks). if anyone knows anything about cupcakes, they'll know that they're the best in old town. my only suggestion for improvement is they need better to-go carrying cases as they seldom survive a long trek of 20-30 mins or so. but, if you're careful with them, they'll remain intact. awesome cupcakes, keep up the great work lavender moon!

i stopped in again (of course) and this time decided on the blood orange dreamsicle, an orange cupcake with blood orange cream cheese frosting. both had a mellow orange flavor, much like a creamsicle.

cupcakes were dry and the icing tasted like duncan hines canned. they were good, but no better than i could make at home. for really tasty gourmet cupcakes, alexandria cupcake is a much better bet. i can't make it like they can.

there were two cupcakeries in old town alexandria that were on my radar - lavender moon and alexandria cupcake. this duel had my sister's name all over it! the plan was to purchase a sampling from each establishment, then take them to her at work at a local, alexandria middles school where she and a few coworkers would deliberate. if you haven't been to old town alexandria, you must go. and take advantage of the free king street trolley to cruise the entire main drag. needless to say, both lavender moon and alexandria cupcake score points for their charming digs in this beautiful historic district (the 3rd oldest historic district in the nation!). lavender moon alexandria cupcake seating at lavender moon first up - lavende

amazing!!. i just walked in to see if they had gluten free cupcakes and they did! the lady was super nice, and told me that they make them every day. she even let me try one and i was amazed at how good it tasted! it tasted like an amazing brownie, and i couldn't even tell it was gluten free (she said they use almond flour). she also told me that all of their cupcakes have about half the sugar of normal cupcakes, and all of their ingredients are organic. a cupcakery after my own heart... i will definitely be returning!
