great vegetarian food/great coffee. i live right around the corner from a lot of coffee shops but i will always choose this one over the others. their vegetarian food is awesome, especially their breakfast sandwiches. their coffee is really really good, as i expect it should be and the atmosphere is laid back. the fact that the main lobby is really tiny hurts the flow of the shop when it's busy, but that is only a minor downside to this otherwise wonderful coffee shop. also, the employees are absolutely delightful, so everyone who comes here should have more than one nice thing to say about the place.

standing in line gives a perfect opportunity to trade tips on natural deodorants. after getting your tasty coffee, head on outside the tiny house-sized establishment to stand beside a table as an aspiring artist creates and outside office space and steadfastedly won’t move his hand tooled leather apple satchel. the long wait for your sandwich is just perfect for cruising the past decade of tattoo trends.

really enjoyed an iced chai tea latte and thai coffee. the coffee and chai had similar spicy under tones and the atmosphere was very richmond coffee shop. not a ton of seating, but good drinks and free wifi. will be back my next time through richmond!

amazing food and drinks, but they are so slow and the atmosphere is super hipster. so basically: get delivery.

best breakfast sandwich i have had.. i have gotten the sriracha maple glazed sandwich twice now and i am pretty sure that it is the best breakfast sandwich i have ever had. the kaiser role is toasted perfectly and there is an audible crunch during every bite. they load it down with scrambled eggs that are definitely real eggs. and the sausage (i had the pork version.) is awesome. i have always liked dipping my sausage in my syrup and this saves me trouble and adds a slight kick with the sriracha. top that off with a cup of the tall bike blend and you are starting your morning off right.

hipster-central. i went there to meet a friend and grab a quick lunch. it seems as though a "quick lunch" is not possible there. it definitely takes some time to get your food.

i also felt incredibly out of place because i didn't ride a fixed-gear bike, didn't have a mac laptop or iphone, thick-framed glasses on, or ask for something that was gluten-free or vegetarian. while i know many of the restaurants in the fan area of richmond have a very hipster feel, lamplighter's is over the top. it's not particularly their fault... but may it is.

the sandwich was good. i've had better, but it was still really good. the staff are friendly and casual. their coffee is still some of the best i've ever had.

it just seems incredibly difficult to support a local business when you feel unwelcome. i guess that's what a sweater and khakis will get you.

dump. this place is a dirty hole in the wall with no class. if you are looking for that kind of place, lamplighter is for you! not for me though...

awesome sandwiches!. the tltna is my absolute favorite here. they have an awesome, unique vegetarian selection and this tempeh sandwich is served on amazing bread and has wonderful flavors. it's huge and i always try to save half, but can't stop myself from eating the whole thing at once. delicious! other reviewers have mentioned slow service and this can definitely be true- i usually call in and order for pick-up and wait an extra 10 minutes or so before i go to get it. sometimes the line can be long to pick-up, too, as cashiers take all orders for coffee and people eating at the restaurant.

this place is awful. people only go to see and be seen. the service is bad. the food is not great, and very slow. coffee is okay at best. allow a good hour to get your food (a sandwich has taken 45 min+ on multiple occasions) and make sure to pay attention to how much you are charged. i've tried supporting this small local place, but they need to step up their game.

my new crush.... best coffee around, hands down. the brown sugar baby macchiato is to die for delicious. i get the espresso beans to take home, and make the stuff at home while it lasts. i have enjoyed their sandwiches as well, from the egg, veg sausage, sriracha, to the heirloom tomato sandwich at lunch. the hippie greens are quite tasty as well. i'm no hipster, but i always like the vibe. only caveat, although the food is well worth it, it typically takes a while. must go for the coffee though, fantastic stuff!

coffee and an iced mocha were greatly enjoyed, as was the gouda mac n’ cheese and fat tony (sausage, red peppers, sauteed onions, fresh mozzarella and basil).

...i was seeking a sunday brunch that was calm and quick yet hit-the-spot. lamplighter was such a locale. built into an old garage or gas station, the outside has a partially covered patio– where one would assume cars previously parked for gas or for service. lamplighter is a dive, said lacy, my friend and hostess for the weekend in richmond. with this statement, she actually offended multiple friends who love the lamplighter, who quipped “but lamplighter is awesome, it has great food!” whoever says delicious food and divey places are mutually exclusive doesn’t spend much time with these bitches. inside, lamplighter has three rooms of mismatched sparse furniture– stools, benches and old arm chairs scattered around tables. one must stake out a space amid the oodles of people studying and reading the newspaper. the set-up, decor and ambiance is remarkably similar to baked & wired, the hippie themed coffee shop in geo
