la sandia

lunch on a saturday. went to lunch today around 1230 and was able to sit down right away. the service was great. i had the carne asada torta. it was really good. there version of the cheese steak sandwich. the skirt steak was cooked just right and had great taste. the bread was nice and fresh. the wife had chicken tinga tacos which were good as well. the chicken was very flavorable and i think i will be getting the tacos next time we go.

oh, dear..... went with one other friend for lunch during the week. we ordered the "famous" guacomole. friend ordered chicken fajitas; i ordered the chile crusted tuna with sweet potato mash and watermelon salsa.

first: had to send the guacomole back. had no seasoning at all and we order it "spicy". it came back unchanged with a salt shaker and a bowl of chopped chilis. we were told to do it ourselves.
second: the fajitas are not what you might expect. they do not come on a sizzling plater. it was chopped chicken on top of wilted pepper and onion slices, all topped with white melted cheese. i guess lettuce and other toppings are not considered "authentic". again, the accompanying guacomole was tasteless.
third: the seared tuna was cold. the sweet potato mash was actually white potatoes with sugar, not actual sweet potatoes. the "salsa" was 3 canned mandarin orange slices with about 5 pieces of diced watermelon. this was thrown over the "sweet" potatoes.
fourth: we were seated at a table up against a partition. at the base of the partition was a serious amount of crumbs and food debris caught in the baseboard.

on the positive side, the guys pouring the water and clearing the plates were very good, prompt, and attentive.

this place has a long way to go before it can be regarded as a keeper. it really was a disaster, and it was my birthday!!!!

thumbs down. i had the opportunity to try la sandia today and it was a disappointment! i ordered the steak fajitas which lacked flavor/ seasoning. i also ordered the guacamole which was absolutely tasteless! how can you screw up mexican food? i predict la sandia's days are numbered...

you cannot not be a fan of mexican food man .. i really it because of places like la sandia and chipotle bar .. which makes the entire cuisine yummy and delicious in all the right aspects

so so..... recently my fiance and her best friend ate at la sandia on a friday night. the actual restaurant setting is very nice, with a decent atmosphere etc. the service was a different story. slow unattentive waiter, confused hostess etc. we had to ask for the "complimentary" chips and salsa as well as drink refills (twice). the food was actually pretty good, not a wow! reaction but not bad.

there are four regional styles of this mexican staple, all prepared and served tableside during la sandia’s guacamole festival throughout may.

i tried the cantana nachos and the guacamole over here i have to say that i wasn't disappointed .. the guac was fresh and yummy and the nachos were filling and that's all i want

umm.. delicious! all i have to say is, the food was delicious. everything that we ordered was on the money. the michelada that i ordered was good but not the best. the ambiance is good and the crew are friendly.

we visited with a party of 10 including a vegetarian on saturday 6/13. had wonderful young lady as a server (lilianna?), was able to make substitutions to meet our needs! great fresh food and wonderful service. we recommend la sandia to all! thanks!

discriminating restaurant!. don't eat here! my wife and i were victims of discrimination by this restaurant's staff and management!

while at la sandia, i also tried the tamales de dulce, which is a dessert for two people. the dish comes with two sweet corn tamales (same type as the sampler platter) and two steaming glasses of café de hoya. the tamales were drizzled with a vanilla bean crema dulce and chopped raisins. the coffee tasted wonderful, sweetened and cinnamon-flavored. personally, i would order the café de hoya on its own, but it tasted great with the tamales de dulce.

as cooler fall temperatures begin to set in, my need for comfort food rises dramatically. la sandia meets that need with some of the most quintessential comfort food dishes from mexico during their second annual mole festival. there are several stories about the origins of mole, but there is no mistaking the time and attention that goes into creating the incredibly flavorful sauces. la sandia features four different types of mole on their menu: mole pipian, mole poblano, mole rojo and mole negro. each sauce requires a multitude of ingredients, up to 35, to get just the right balance of flavor. to try all of the amazing variations, we started with the tasting plate of cheese quesadillas that include all of the different sauces. it was a great way to sample the sauces and get an idea of which one you prefer. they all have their own unique flavors and spice blends. the mole pipian is a green sauce comprised of spinach, cilantro, pumpkin seeds,

excellent happy hour! margaritas & the tequila flight were amazing! chicken nachos were very delicious.

what service?!. horrible service. spent over an hour at the restaurant. 10 minutes was spent actually eating. an hour was spent waiting for water, food, and my dinner beverage.. not to mention we only saw our waiter 3 times in an hour. my wife's main diamen ever came andwe didn't see the waiter until 10 minutes after the rest of us finished eating. the manager's effort to apologize for the horrible service was giving us two gift cards for a free side of guacamole..... really?!?!?! the gift card was insulting, apparently our wasted time was only worth $1.50 to the manager.

texan. we ate there as a group in oct. 2011. it was some of the best mexican food i have ever had, and i'm from texas. the sopas and mole were great. the drinks were also outstanding!
