la cage aux sports

la cage has a new menu and a healthier approach generally.  this is thanks to the arrival of tv chef louis-françois marcotte in march last year. there was a makeover of the menu and even a name change few months later – the chain is now branding itself as la cage - brasserie sportive.

went on the habs first game of the season. the place was pretty packed but our waitress did a great job. had the chicken wrap which was alright, the side fries portion was not very large but enough. the chipotle mayo was awesome! great place to watch a game. average pub fair. good service.

worst dining experience in a long time. we had a reservation and they had crayons and a child's menu ready for our son. they chose to seat us in the bar and then made a large party of people move because they won't allow children in the bar area (was 6pm or we would have agreed if it was late). i am a strict vegetarian and said no bacon on the nachos and explained. there was bacon, and it had clearly been an error but they failed to take it all off a portion, so if i was not paying attention i would have eaten it. asked for the manager and he was indifferent/flippant. he said they made 90 a day, he could not control it. i asked what happens if it is an allergy or religious choice? he shrugged his shoulders. pretty unfortunate, your business is simple pub food, and you can't handle that?

i wish they had this in ontario. i love la cage aux sports! it's the only chain restaurant i know of that successfully meshes sports and food and makes it interesting. very tasty soup, fries and burgers!

good sports bar. this place is often packed, it's a sports restaurant bar for sure so don't expect a fancy quiet place!! they have good pub/bar food although the draft selection is limited (something they should have expanded when they did their reno's) great place to go watch a hockey/football game or boxing match it's got lots of ambience.

exactly what you'd expect from a sports bar...
