in a characteristic mylapore brahmin accent, one of my school teachers always used to say, 'mathavaal la kashta paduthi than sandosham varum na, andha madhiri sandosham ey namakku vendam tanveer' true that, mam.
extrapolating her philosophy, i'd say 'oru global fast food chain ah review panni than unakku review points varanum na, andha madhiri points ey vendam tanveer'
lol.
hence, it is by principle that i decided not to review ubiquitous global food chains,
'subway nungambakkam is the best' then 2 days later ' subway t nagar is the shizz macha'. etc. also domino's. they're there by the dozens. someone write a review for pizza hut no. paavam, fellows have become invisible.
'periya principle nu sonna? apparam enna **thukku you're writing this' nu you folks can ask. touché.
thing is, the exception to my principle, is, if a food chain is absolutely exceptional(this one) , is getting unreasonable hype(starbucks alwarpet) or a glaring health hazard (thankfully yet to find one such establishment), i'd consider writing a review for it. hence, we are here.
krispy kreme opened up a long time ago. namma than late. no latest coming also. lol. *self facepalm*
i visited theplacerecently and absolutely loved it. being away from the food court, helps keep theplacesane. it isn't buzzing with people, and it works wonders in its favor. it's hard to find such places, especially in a mall as busy as ea. also, the view. it isn't all sea view baywatch types, nor are you blessed with a neon enhanced view of the skyline of our city. all you can see are a bunch of exquisite german beauties, with a few indian go-getters thrown in for good measure. for the automotively challenged, i'm speaking about the view of the car parking. :d also, it's a nice feeling to casually stroll your car, park it on the ground floor without having to go to the depths of dante's inferno to park/retrieve. and the garden and the entrance to the mall. lovely. didn't mind spending extra for mall parking this time!
theplacehas a very welcoming ambience. huge windows, good natural lighting, the garden and the cars, chairs, of 2 kinds. one section is the laid back cushion sofas which you'd find in most ccds, and another section with a more serious, table and chair set up. they all work well though!
the food, is also exceptional. they're a dessert only place, with a few beverages served. hence you won't find anything savoury on the menu. i guess that's another reason why theplaceis relatively less crowded, cause there's only so much time you can spend for dessert. i did the same too. there's a mango fest going on and so we had ordered for 6 doughnuts. each one of us, wanted an original glazed doughnut and a doughnut with a filling. the mango cheese cake doughnut was my choice and i liked it. though i don't know if i'd ever eat a cheesecake in a donut form again, it tasted pretty good. another friend had a vanilla mango filled doughnut and she liked it too. the last doughnut was this chocolate filled dish, which was smashing. all 3 doughnuts had copious amounts of filling, especially the chocolate one, which was oozing liquid chocolate and managed to create an enjoyable mess of things. we were all kids again. but i personally preferred the original glazed doughnuts. simple, yet they were better than the more decadent ones imho. could have eaten a box of just those.
the service is also pretty good. 'welcome to krispy kreme sir' exclaims this gentleman from the counter as you enter the place. 'namma la than da koopudran'! all warm and fuzzy you get. don't remember the last time i got a
' welcome to domino's sir'. i guess it's cause i'm only there for the buy one get one offer. and they're like 'oc le ye thinra paaru' lol.
there was a lady who had understood the awesomeness of thisplaceand had sat with a couple of doughnuts, a drink and a book, by the corner. kudos to her. resisted the urge to replicate her behaviour as i had to leave.
the krispy kreme outlet at forum mall, is in the middle of the entire mall, and i really didn't take to it. so i never tried it. but i'm sure they all taste the same. one grain of rice is evidence for the whole pot. does that ring a bell? if it did, then you a true local macha. :d
thisplacethough, just nails it on all frontiers!
definitely coming back here. probably every time i visit the mall. lol. not every time i guess. rapidly outgrowing my clothes already. :p
cheers. : )
