i went to komeyui for my partner’s birthday.
i ordered two foie gras chawanmushi and the butter garlic sea snail to start with.
i should’ve ordered a blue swimmer crab chawanmushi instead of two foie gras. the foie gras was nice but too heavy when it combined with the egg. the sea snail tasted buttery but it was more like the butter that made it tasty than itself.
we then ordered some premium toro sushi, sea urchin, king fish, scampi , abalone , sword fish, scallops.
great presentation. really fresh sushi. wasabi was also fresh shaven , not the fake one you get from a packet.
toro- good. melt in your mouth. it was like $15 per toro sushi. it tasted good but then of course you cant compare to the ones you get from japan.
sea urchin- was really fresh but it wasnt the really sweet buttery taste ones that i’ve been searching for.
king fish- fresh and fatty. get that.
i love the sword fish- it was sweet and tasty. i eat king fish all the time but i don’t get sword fish that often in aus, so i recommend trying that.
scallops were seared , fresh as well but nothing out of ordinary.
we had the sake creme brûlée and matcha roll cake for dessert. they were both really good.
we were happy with the service but then it was really busy at the start and there weren’t enough waitresses around, so sometimes we had to wait for a long time to get their attention. we sat at the bar so we get to see sushi making in action.
i would go back again if i felt like treating myself. i would also try other things
