tantalizing tastes. this was my first time at komali and the food is delicious! they certainly know how make flavor come alive. on a down side, the appetizers were particularly skimpy and they did not offer complimentary chips and salsa. normaly i would not reurn due to lack of the complimentary chips and salsa ( which is a given with mexican food) however, this place may be the exception. our waiter waqs also phenominal and knowledgeable!

i was expecting a little more because i love salum. it has not wowed me especially for the $. the pazole is good & the filet was good but i have had an over cooked pork chop & very average enchiladas.

horrible service; mediocre food. waiter was uninterested in waiting on us; we had to signal for him multiple times to come take our orders, then he had the nerve to include 15% gratuity. we were a table of 4.

food was mediocre. desserts were dry and looked like they had been in the refrigerator for a week. when we sent them back, he tried to make excuses. won't be returning.

hip interior and interesting food, but with a few inconsistencies and hickups. we had not finished our app's when our entrees arrived. overall, the size of the dishes varied. our apps were generous but my husbands scallop entree was tiny. my steak entree was appropriate but the desserts were just too dang big! we didn't find the noise level difficult and enjoyed our stay but not sure we would return soon.

komali is a winner!. being a big fan of salum, i definitely had to try komali and i was not disappointed. the restaurant is beautiful and well designed. service was excellent! tomales and mussels (a special) to start with, i had the pork chip which was delicious. around the table we had the filet (also great), meatballs and stuffed pepper with crab meat. everything was flavorful and fun. don't let me forget the drinks which were delicious. i had the komali margarita and it was yummy! crepes and churros for dessert - these were just ok. also enjoyed delicious coffee with dessert. a definite keeper!!

wanted to like it but did not. i love any and all mexican food, but komali was a disappointment, especially for the price. my tiny entre (which i didn't like enough to finish) cost $20 even though it was 80% rice. the chips were stale. it was very difficult to communicate with our waiter because his english is so weak. and he's one of those waiters who stops at only one table during each trip from the kitchen, carefully avoiding eye contact with you until he's ready to visit your table again. on the positive side, the decor is pleasant and the hostess was very inviting.

i'm easy to please but wasn't. i'd bet you $100 komali won't be around much longer.

the salsa is excellent, but the chips are cut very thick—enough that we chose to forgo the guacamole. the service was incredible, even from when we called, and the food was really, really good. i have to stick to 3 stars mainly because i feel like i got 519% of my daily serving of sodium. i couldn’t finish my beans! margs were good.

after reading the review by the observer i didn't know what to expect because they painted such a bad picture. however, i liked it, and i'll be back again! we started out with queso fundido which was outstanding, only complaint is we needed a few more tortillas to go with this deliciousness. for the main course i had the enchiladas de pollo en salsa verde which were great! all the flavors worked so well together. my dinner partner had the pollo en mole negro de oaxaca . if you love mole you have to try it here. it's so rich and dark, almost overpowering the rest of the dish. of course we had a few drinks to go with our meal. try their house special margarita, i think it's called the komail, you won't be disappointed!

this is the real taste of mexico. the owner is from mexico and has brought with him a greatest team, chef, waiters, bartenders. all dishes are done very creatively. this is no tex-mex experience. from the guacamole, the ceviche, to delicious steaks or fish, you cannot go wrong. try the tequila flight for a real kick of mexico. deserts are delicious as well. the owner and hostess welcome all guests with a genuine smile. and on top of all that, the meals are very reasonably priced. definitely a dallas charm.

definitely not the choice for a chips and salsa lover. i wasn't really wasn't impressed with the food, but i'd go back for drinks. the mexican martini was excellent. i think it'd be a good happy hour date spot. i definitely wouldn't recommend the shrimp enchiladas. the shrimp seemed to be old or frozen. the atmosphere and service were great.

komali- contemporary-ish mexican cantina served in mediocre location, with mediocre food but attentive service. will be back for the drinks but will skip the food next time.

sight: ubiquitous upscale mexican restaurant with granite bar tops and modern décor. tinder dates, power couples, dallas meetup groups, girls night out….this place is appropriate for almost any gathering.

sound: quiet enough to have a conversation but (can be) bustling enough to still remain upbeat.

touch: dallas sleek with touches modern

smell: n/a. a bit disappointing.

taste:
caliente clementine margarita- award winning margarita with citrus zestiness with a hit of jalapeno heat. made skinny (all margaritas can be made skinny here—just ask!)
chips and salsa- complimentary chips corn chips and homemade salsa. tostitoes rold gold like variety—heavy, thick, to the point of over fried. salsa was fresh.

ceviche- mahi mahi citrus marinated ceviche was flavorful but seemed to be pre-made and sitting in a refrigerator for a while. there was nothing really “delicate” about the seafood…

chicharones- a basket of fresh, hot pork rinds well seasoned and crispy. the perfect bar snack to pair with my margarita.

lots of food was placed on the table to taste before the radio interview began. the two very important people sitting at the table were executive chef julio peraza, as well as bar manager leann berry. while owner abraham salum was not present, he is also considered important. chef peraza arrived with a vision to bring the mayan and aztec cultures together while having fun using many different techniques. chef peraza has worked at many impressive restaurants and has a fine dining background. leann berry is not your average bartender. we tasted two different drinks that were definitely not boring. berry’s plan has always been to elevate the basic margarita using different ingredients. she takes tequila to the level it should be taken. she explained her take on the margarita and it is something everyone needs to know. check out the radio show—> here . check out the food & drinks —> below.

does not disappoint!. pedro our server made our special event feel even more special. he was funny and very attentive. the food is consistently great and served beautifully. tamarindo mimosas were the perfect touch to our brunch. this place has got perfection down to a science!

tamarindo martini was amazing! even had a chile rimmed glass. everything we tried was amazing. the quesadillas with squash blossoms are a must.

not worth the money. in my opinion the portions are small for the money spent. one guy in our group got the stuff poblano, and it was literally just a pepper--no rice or beans for $24. i won't be going back.
