koa pancake house

my friend and i enjoyed the chocolate chip pancakes and eggs benedict here.

this is the best breakfast option we found on the island... and we looked. clean, friendly, fast service in a funky cool spot. not the typical over rated tourist trap like eggs and things or boot's and kimo's

it's ok... a little bland for my taste but thet good portions

for the low prices and speedy (if not rushed) service, this place is great. basic breakfast fare, huge pancakes, coffee cup kept filled.

after our morning sunrise outing, we headed over to grab some breakfast in the kaneohe area. specifically, we were looking for koa pancake house. this particular location was a bit difficult to find because it’s in the middle of a semi-industrial area and the signage says “kaneohe pancake house” instead of “koa pancake house”.

paper plates, plastic ware, styrofoam, & food to match - after seeing lines outside the door (usually a good sign) koa pancake house was such a disappointment. my guess is that there are lines because the food is not expensive? i liken it to the breakfast at mcdonald’s. if you like mcdonald’s you will like koa pancake house.

normally, we try to avoid chain restaurants, especially when traveling, but we heard such great things about this place that we decided to give it a try. apparently everyone else on oahu was thinking the same thing, because this place was packed with both locals and tourists when we arrived at 8:30 am. after waiting in line for about 15 minutes, we finally made our way up to the register and ordered. we asked to eat in, but were told that we would have to get it to go, and just hope for a table if one became available. we did a little polite hovering, and by the time our food arrived, we had a place to sit down with it, styrofoam containers and all. the food was good - not what i'd categorize in any way as unique or outstanding, but it was definitely tasty - and gave us a satisfying, stick-to-the-ribs carb boost for our hike of diamond head later that morning. mr. b got the loco moco, which is a hawaiian standard - white rice, topped with ground hamburger or a hamburger patty, a fried egg, and brown gravy. the koa pancake house offers a number of variations on this theme, including a spam version. (might as well jump in with both feet, as they say.)

i sat down and waited 20 minutes just to order without so much of a smile. i then waited another 20 minutes waiting for my food and during that time, 2 tables were seated, ordered and was given there food. at no time did the anyone check on us! the food is ok, but the service is horrible!

why the hype??. my boyfriend and i tried koa pancake house after several friends recommended it. when we walked in everything was dark and dank and felt like it hadn't been cleaned in 10 years. the server was nice, and immediately brought us coffee. the good stops there. the food was below average to average with little flavor other than grease. we will definitely not be going back.

don't understand.... how koa continues to get such high marks. the service wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. the food was marginal to bad. it didn't have lots of flavor or look/taste particularly fresh. also, the restaurant appeared dirty.

goodbye to koa house. aloha has many different meanings in hawaiian. for my post, aloha means goodbye. usually i like the koa house. the service isn't the greatest, but the food is good and it's one of those places that has been in kaneohe awhile so i like to go there and eat. this morning we went to eat and while we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive, we ordered oatmeal for the kiddies. the waitress acted like we were bothering her because we wanted to order oatmeal now and wait for the rest of our party to order our food. she was not very helpful the entire meal and even forgot someone's toast and hot chocolate. we didn't make a big deal of it and just figured she's kind of rude. our bill was paid at the front register and the tip was included. she wasn't the best, but we left a 10% tip. as we were loading up in our cars, our waitress runs outside of the restaurant and yells at us with a ton of attitude, "excuse me, excuse me, you guys didn't leave a tip. this is a restaurant you know." then she went inside. i was shocked. she did not just yell at us for not leaving a tip when we did. i was so upset, i went back into the restaurant and asked the owner if we paid a tip. she said yes and i looked at the waitress and instead of just saying sorry, she yelled back at me and said well she (the owner) didn't tell me you guys left a tip with her and she walked away. again, what?!?!?! and everyone in the restaurant is hearing this because it's not a big place. i told the owner that she better talk to her employee because if that's the way you treat your customers, we are never coming back. after we left, we said we should've just taken our tip back. we were so mad that we went back to the restaurant and the owner kept saying sorry, but then she said well most people pay at least 15% tip. again what?!?!?! we told her that tip is not mandatory and based on service. and 10% for a big party is a lot of money to begin with. am i wrong about this concept?? needless to say it was a terrible experience and i'm not going back there to eat!!!!! i'm sorry to say the waitress was a hawaiian local lady and the worst thing was, we were with visitors from the mainland and this is what they saw of our local restaurant. i'm so upset,

awesome pancakes. 3 fluffy cakes and 2 eggs for $5 can't beat that and the cakes plus coconut syrup is heaven. very small parking lot.

great pancake house!. on the weekend expect a wait...but it's well worth it. great service and great breakfast. pancakes are thick and fluffy. give it a try!

big fluffy pancakes and endless coffee. they give you regular syrup along with coconut syrup and a fruity one with orange, pineapple,and marmalade, or something like that. lots of food and good price.
