decent menu, although all ventured around fish and if you don’t know that beforehand it can be a surprise. small portions for the price. gorgeous decor.

the $60 taste auckland dining menu was irresistible. it arrives with a glass of sauvignon blanc. we chose monkfish as our main. it's an extremely difficult fish to cook well as a fillet; i buy it often for a mediterranean stew, but this was excellent. top result. the staff are attentive, charming and knowledgeable. this was our second visit to kingi and we left happy the first time. we shared an ice cream dessert to finish (an extra) and it was grainy, the only demerit to an otherwise delicious dining experience. the setting tugs all my heartstrings and makes me hugely impressionable, but if i paid a few dollars more for that i'm happily suckered.

kingi should be amazing. the decor is truly stunning. it’s the decor that lured us here in the first place.
unfortunately the bad experience started with the surly hotel britomart receptionist.
kingi bar staff were very good even though the cocktail list is quite limited.
into the restaurant which is beautiful. the design is stunning, fire was on. perfect saturday night.
until the food arrived. the kawhai was dry and inedible. we ended up ordering the burger as everything else was unappealing. the burger was lovely but i could have bought an equally nice $12 burger at my local chippy.
dessert also a major disappointment.
the service was excellent - no complaints there but the chefs need to do better.
such a shame as the location is superb.

we having been regular customer there until 2 weeks ago, the restaurant manager was very unprofessional. rudest person ever! just because they wanted to close and go home they said “ you’re too intoxicated for another round of drinks “

the atmosphere was great and the staff were lovely. unfortunately food wasn't as good with our mussels being very fishy. the octopus was in olive oil and was quite bland. however the snapper main was actually quite nice. just a shame the entrées weren't as good for a fine dining restaurant. our meal was fair, not great.

delicious melange of starters ! great wine choices. extremely welcoming and helpful staff. had to leave in a hurry due to family emergency and they were solicitous and flexible. thoroughly recommend on all levels.

stayed at hotel britomart for 3 nights....beautiful hotel and great service. went to kingi for breakfast first morning - very tasty food...but slack service - which was disappointing. we wondered why kingi was near empty, when everywhere else had full houses? went in for brunch today as we were heading off for home to try our luck again- totally ignored, had to find our own table, sat for what seems like eternity waiting for some attention and finally had to hop up and go and find a waiter...who said that they were in change over (11.30am) and wouldn't be cooking anything for another 30 minutes - so we left and took our business elsewhere along with another elderly couple experiencing the same terrible, sullen, arrogant service. such a shame, as kingi is truly a beautiful spot with a great chef. could we suggest the owners/management start a fresh with new staff before its too late (perhaps take the new crew along the road to amarno to see how a well oiled machine works - staff that make you feel special and care for your every need.....little wonder its hard to get a table there!).

wanted to love kingi. beautiful setting and atmosphere. however there’s bad service and then there’s bad service at kingi. passed two servers when we walked in and both ignored us. had to hail one down to get seated. gave us cups but no water. took a long time to take our order- had to hail a server down again. forgot one out of two drinks. the food was good but very small portions.

the place is so pretty and so much potential, beautifully renovated space with sparkling chandeliers and concept design. the food was not very tasty. or maybe because we only ordered starters. however if the starters are not on par then how disappointing would the mains be. we were ignored multiple times and took 15 minutes to get noticed by a waiter for butter.
quite overpriced, and the octopus carpaccio required a lot of pepper to not taste fishy.

nestled in britomart, exactly in hotel britomart. they have an indoor and outdoor seating area which gives a choice to enjoy the sun in summer and be cozy inside in winter with a warm blanket. food is a bit on a pricier side - paid for the whole flounder $33 and the snapper for $34 - however, the food is well presented and delectable! worth what we paid for.

nice new opening in britomart. we went for lunch and ordered a range of dishes to go with breads. managed to sneak a peak at the breakfast and dinner menu which both looked impressive and worth a return visit.

we went with much anticipation. ethos & food are great, service was diffident & inattentive, table looked at the milk fridge. pity as this let down the very good food.

kingi is situated within the hotel britomart building and spills out into the lane way, which creates such a lovely atmosphere. the oysters were very fresh, the vinaigrette was paired so well. the kina was very rich and was a great introduction to sea urchin. cazador deli meats are always a win. the blue cod was both intimidating and delicious. within each fin piece is a juicy, smooth chunk of delicate meat. the waiter also informed that we could consume the fins and they’re quite crunchy and enjoyable. would come back for it, the flavours were not overwhelming but super good with fish. the cray roll was a bit disappointing, just an odd combo. overall though, would definitely come back.
