yuck!. ate here for the first time last night. after being back in the jackson area from dallas for the last couple of years, i thought i was steeled against third-rate food with second-rate service charging first-rate prices, but kathryn's has managed to set the bar even lower. the "fried rolls" should have tipped me off. ordered the deep-fried spinach ball thingies ("gradoo") as an appetizer. came still cold in the middle, had to send them back. nondescript salad. my steak was actually ok, with some nice crab meat on top, but then you would really have to try to mess up a filet. the broccoli au gratin sauce was sweet and cloying rather than being cheesy and savory. i tried a fried shrimp that one of my companions had ordered. it was a sort of tempura batter, gooey and disgusting under the crust. the "fried rolls" were supermarket rolls dropped in the fryer, and reminded me strongly of the sopapillas i used to get at pancho's. after eating at anjou and babalu over the last couple of weeks, both of which are in roughly the same price range, and both which we enjoyed in their different ways, kathryn's will not be seeing us again. ever.
