a few weeks back i was in the refreshingly rainy hamlet of seattle to rendezvous with my pinoy peeps and to soak in the city, as it were. and in between brief rays of sun (minutes at best), rain it did; and though we did spend some quality time outdoors, we did oft seek shelter indoors. besides the wet stuff that falls from the sky, seattle is different from denver in other ways. it is, for example, home to many, many filipino expats and their inevitable extended families. this was equally as refreshing to me as the 4 days of more or less continuous rain showers, because as i have said before, denver is sorely lacking filipinos . you may remember from my other posts that filipinos love the mall , so it should be no surprise that in south seattle, where the filipino population is most concentrated, there is a fabulously filipino mall. i am not one to take much pride or joy in the filipino mall-loving tradition. maybe it is because i am but 50 percent pinoy (i don't care for boxing much

i ate here because of the reviews and there is always a line. i ordered the two piece chicken with rice and mash potatoes, yum burger with tlc, and a hotdog. the chicken was nothing special. it was fresh and hot, but it is just lightly floured deep fried chicken. the mash potatoes were standard plain instant. the brown gravy was really good. the yummy burger was bland and didn't taste very good. i came, i saw, i won't be going back.

• i’ve been here numerous times and so far it had been consistent
• be ready to line up for at least 20-25 minutes, why? there’s only 1 cashier available, only 1 person taking your orders
• yum burger: a good quick snack
• chicken burger: great size, sauce is perfect with it
• palabok: thin noodles, garlic shrimp sauce. again perfect size for a meal
• chickenjoy: crispylicious, nicely seasoned, i had to eat it to the bones lol
• hardworking staff, they should be compensated well
• i recommend this place if you crave some good chicken

whisper the word jollibee (or post a picture on facebook) and every filipino for miles around will text you an order for chicken to be brought back to canada (does that seem a bit like a stereotype? sorry. let's say, every filipino that my partner knows for miles around). it is definitely a taste of home for a lot of folks and currently the tukwila store is the nearest jollibee to vancouver, bc. this is a popular fast food place in the philippines best known for fried chicken. and it is pretty good fried chicken, being crispy yet very moist on the inside. i wouldn't put it above seattle's own ezells but it is as good as churches or any of the other vancouver chains and a good deal better than most. you can order it with some interesting sides like palabok, a noodle dish with chicharon, pork, shrimp, boiled eggs and their version is very tasty. or try it with spaghetti. the filipino version of spaghetti is much sweeter than the italian and traditionally has chopped up wieners in the sauce. not my personal favourite but popular at jollibee and their version is not too sweet. i know that seems odd but don't try to compare it to italian bolognese and it is quite tasty. other than that, their gravy is pretty decent, with onion and celery notes. they have burgers, a decent breakfast and more. personally, i wouldn't drive to seattle just for jollibee (my partner would) but when we are down there we definitely make the stop. also it is surrounded by a few other filipino places like the grocery store seafood city which has amazing fresh fish and some harder to find filipino items, a couple of bakeries and least two more fast food places. if you are filipino, you already know (sorry... stereotype again) and if you are not, you owe it to yourself to expand your cultural horizons!

the burgersteak and peach mango pie which is my favorites are the best. spaghetti looks pale in color and chickenjoy tastes a bit different from the philippines. there’s always a lineup and must have extra patience when visiting this branch.

we were in south center and needed a light dinner and jollibee was close by and busy.  my wife had the chicken fingers and was happy to get rice instead of fries.  i had the aloha burger.  both dishes were decent, but we wonder why it is so popular.  the chain has 800 locations worldwide and what we had was unremarkable.

my friends and i drove from vancouver just to come here. i love this place! the chicken is so delicious and their gravy too. the peoeple working here are always so friendly and efficient in keeping the place clean. it's really just like in manila. i love how it's right beside red ribbon and just across chow king. the location is convenient and the food is affordable. wish they would open jollibee in vancouver!!

nanzaro wanted a vacation in summer. he complained that everyone in the family had a vacation except him. so, ben decided to bring him to chicago since he had a $300 voucher from united airlines from a previous flight that he was bumped. our flight was from sea-tac airport and it was an early flight at 6:00am. we started our journey on a friday afternoon driving to seattle. we had booked a night at a stay and park hotel near sea-tac aiport.

even anthony bourdain tried jollibee on his show "parts unknown" and loved everything about it. you can watch it here below. [jollibee segment starts at 0:40]  if you haven't seen "parts unknown by anthony bourdain" before, you're missing out. it's incredibly eye opening from a cultural perspective and he always talks about food. :) connected next door is a filipino baker

the fried chicken was piping hot, fatty and juicy (in a good way) and i liked the sweet spaghetti because that's how my mom also taught me to make my spaghetti (1 teaspoon of sugar to cut the acid).

my filipino friends at home were jealous.... i had heard about jollibee from filipino friends and coworkers, so when we randomly stumbled across it while we were at the mall, we had to check it out.

the setup is very food court-ish, but the line moved pretty fast and we only had to wait a couple of minutes for the food to be served.

i had the 2 piece fried chicken combo with mashed potatoes and gravy and buttered corn.

the mashed potatoes and corn were fine, but the gravy was awesome. and the fried chicken was delicious. fresh, hot and crispy. i seriously debated going back for more, but opted to go next door to red ribbon bakery for dessert instead (the ube cake and coconut macaroons were excellent!)

if we're ever in the area again, we would definitely go back.

disgusting. this place was awful. the burger had a very strange, bland flavor. the bun was soggy. the fries were flavorless. my husband and i love pretty much every type of food, our favorite being from asian countries, but this was just bad. neither of us could finish the food. in fact, i took one bite of the burger, and had to spit it out.

jollibee is essentially the mcdonald for filipinos, at least that’s the way i can describe it. it is addictive and oh so delicious! going here has always made me nostalgic for when i used to eat it when i was a kid back in the philippines.

wow, it's in u.s. now?!. what i can remember when i was 9 years old, was almost the same as when i quickly got in the line at this mall fast food. i wish the service was quicker and that one of the chicken weren't soggy and cooked right. probably never order chicken, but i'd try the palabok some other time. very distant location though.. from north wa
