omg! found this cafe by the coffee aroma drifting down the street, so glad we followed it. our second visit to joe's ( on a brief visit to city ). we have sampled a few items off the menu from the granola, eggs bene, omelet and then a variety of coffees. the staff are so friendly and helpful, happy to make a special request coffee.. oh and the fresh juices made in store. wow!.
while i don't live in sydney, this is a place i will return too next visit...

great coffee!. scrambled eggs overdone and closer to an omlette but great bacon and tomatoes. generous serves. awesome coffee. eggs again a bit overdone on stormin norman.

will definitely return. had late breakfast here with 3 friends. the coffee was very good. the flower pattern they make on top of a cappuccino was picture perfect.
i went for the chilli chicken burger which was delish, spicy but not too much for an early meal. others had the quiche which looked great with a good salad, the pancakes which were nice but more a desert pancake than brekkie pancake.

all in all, great spot. you wont regret trying here.

from the macchiato to a flat white, each brew is made with love which really comes out in the flavour.

nice little cafe with some really friendly staff. coffee is really good and food was good as well. i got the eggs benny with smoked salmon; it was good but nothing special. price is comparable to other cafes in the city but the portion size is a little on the smaller size. overall, had a good time.

riz was stock standard but i got a syphon for the first time. amazing! staff super friendly

nicely sized place with a great atmosphere. i had poached eggs and a latte. both were satisfactory but nothing incredible. staff were lovely. would recommend.

joe black is a cafe in surry hills which is popular for their special brews including storm n norman and magic. the cozy cafe features an unmistakable black and white mural showcasing the evolution of man and coffee, polished floorboards and exposed brick walls.

magic, a double ristretto flat white or cappuccino in a three-quarter cup, is very drinkable with slight bitterness. and the coffee breath somehow does not linger.

premium prices for average quality. joe black is my closest coffee shop when i"m working at liverpool st and i go there 3 times a week. recently the quality of their coffee has been deteriorating and after just paying $13.00 for a large latte and bacon and egg roll i've decided the 3 block walk to another coffee shop is worth the time.

it didn't help that the size of my coffee was wrong after checking twice, then given to me as a flat white instead of a latte either.

a neat little cafe in surry hills, sydney that has a wonderful laid back ambience, comfortable seating, wifi and decent coffee. but here’s what happened at the cafe that morning..

we happened to meet the cafe owner for he was the one serving customers that morning. at first i took an interest in his peculiar mannerisms. he rushed back to the kitchen every time he took an order. there he transferred the orders curtly in chinese to his staff. then he quickly rushed back to make conversation with some patrons, whom he seemed to know. he stood there chatting till their order was ready in the kitchen! then in another swoosh, he hurried off and came back with the order. then for the next several minutes he stood there explaining some technicality of the food he served..how it’s their own home recipe or something. i even overheard him say that he has a masters degree.

deceiving. ruined my sunday brunch. admittedly i did not do as much research as i usually do, and went with zomato's ratings as guidance as it was next to great selections i had previously been to before. well i am writing this to correct that.

starting from the beginning, i walked in, and outside smelt like urine and stunk at least halfway through the entry. the cafe was very empty. sat down and got given the menu. nothing special, very average breakfast menu. ordered an omelette w/ mushroom, sausage and cheese and eggs benedict w/ salmon. my partner was not happy at all at this place as we could tell that it was more of a place you'd go on your way to work or if you were really lazy and lived nearby. 

when we received the food, the presentation wasn't there. the eggs benedict came with ham instead of my requested salmon. i didn't complain as i had lost my appetite. at one out of the two given, and was instantly turned off by the lot. i usually get hot eggs benedict and this was not even hot. my girlfriend's omelette was eatable, but definitely could of cooked it ourselves at home.

i never really dislike places i eat at, but i just don't like deception and this really ruined our sunday brunch. but please, do not let this deter you from here, i am sure you probably have different taste buds to myself.

awesome atmosphere, great staff - loved their attitude! the food was tasty (stormin' normin and granola) and the coffee superb. tried the cold drip coffee which was an interesting twist. will definitely be venturing back soon.

from melbourne, service was weird, 5 senses coffee promised was a bubbly, utter letdown. olive oil saved the day on an otherwise cheaply prepared, single egg on cold toast, overpriced "breakfast" that was almost double the price you'd pay at a respectable, new, hip melbourne cafe. avo + 3x cherry toms + 1 thin slice toast + 1 egg does not equal $13. such a shame considering the (now presumably biased) good prior feedback. 5/10

i can’t believe i have lived around the corner for 6 years and i have just discovered this place.
coffee was great. the owner is so nice. we had a great chat. food was good.
i’ll come back for sure.
