j&j barbeque and burgers

ok bbq. j&j is alright nothing really special. if you live in cedar park the restaurant it's nice b/c of the location and lack of other bbq near. however, don't expect great things.

migas tacos....the end. i don't each much barbeque but i do love breakfast and breakfast tacos are one of my favorite things about texas. what did i eat for breakfast before i moved here?

i just order the migas tacos. the migas are filled with onions and peppers. yum! lately they've been putting too many tortilla strips in them though. i then go to their condiment bar and load up on the pico. their pico de gallo is very different. i think they use a food processer for the onions and jalapenos. whatever, it's salty and delicious and i love the hot migas with cold pico.

if you're looking for the locals this is where we are on saturday morning. there is parking way in the back so don't skip it because it looks full.

best bbq around!. we eat at j&j's all the time and have never had a bad experience. they have the best brisket and pork ribs. my boyfriend is an expert on cheeseburgers, and they have one called the "texan" that he just loves. friendly staff and a very clean and casual place. we love the new screened in porch addition. if you are hungry for some good southern bbq, then j&j's is your kind of place.

to finish our visit with my mother we decided to stop and enjoy what we thought would be a terrific meal at a local restaurant, however that was not the case. my mother, son and self stopped in for a good burger and bar-b-que. there was a table of 10 and then another table with 2 in the lobby. i went to the register and asked the cashier what was good, wherein she stated that we would have a 45 minute to hour wait. i looked at her confused and then looked back at the only 2 tables filled in their lobby. the cashier then said she had a full party out back and that she was then having to deal with the table of 10 too. i then asked if there was another burger joint around and she stated "for you, mcdonald's". i said, excuse me and walked away with pure disgust! i then told my son that we couldn't eat here due to the wait. he then said, you realize everyone here is white and that lady is giving us dirty looks (referring to the cashier). i told him to go start the car and then waited on my mother. i explained to her we weren't welcome here and needed to leave. as this happened, an older white gentleman walked in and was greeted with a "hi what would you like?" i looked at her and she just kept on like nothing was wrong. the gentleman placed his order got his cup for his drink and then went to sit down. there was no mention of a wait to him or that he couldn't be served because of too many people, he got immediate service! let me clarify, my mother and self are white but my son is bi-racial. this was clearly a problem for the cashier and restaurant! i, we in all our travels throughout the us, caribbean, mexico and south america have never experienced this blatant racism and negativity as we did at this establishment. completely and utterly disgusted!

to mike’s delight, bbq joints have been popping up all over the city. i have to admit, i rarely crave bbq so we haven’t tried too many of them. but mike’s been pretty persistent so i finally gave in and we dropped by j&j bar-b-que one saturday afternoon. j&j bar-b-que. on a side note, don’t you find that everything comes to toronto in waves? there was a time when ramen joints were popping up left right and centre and now it’s all about poke and bbq (adamson bbq, cherry street bbq and smoke signals to name a few).

untrustworthy. be very careful before choosing this restaurant for any type of catering event. i contracted with the owner to smoke some briskest for a large birthday party. the week of the event, i confirmed the order. the day before the event i went to the restaurant and was told their smokers were full and wouldn't fulfill our contract. left me in a huge bind the the little fat faced weasel owner did not even care, let alone apologize for his dishonesty and lack of integrity.

we are foodies & very particular! this place is out of this world! no, seriously...you must try it for yourself! on this trip we ordered breakfast! the bacon is to die for...thick & crispy! they got really packed quick, but the service did not slow at all. i'm telling you...this is the place!!!

was hungry for brisket so came here to get our fix. place was pretty noisy so we ordered to go. our order was filled quickly and correctly. you get your own onions, pickles, pico, hot sauce, etc. we had yummy brisket, home made mac n cheese, pinto beans and cole slaw. the cole slaw was a little sweet but the beans were delicious! the brisket was so tender, we cut it with our forks. it was perfect! good tangy bbq sauce was included. while we were waiting, we saw lots of yummy looking food coming out of the kitchen. will definitely try this place again!

very satisying. very satisfying two meat platter. good portions. hamburger was juicy but proportion with roll was off (too much bread). friendly staff.

quite possibly the worst fried chicken i've ever had. they advertise "best ever." it was fried in same oil used for fish. you could taste the fish on the fried chicken. $28 for an 8 piece meal and 2 sides. i frequent this establishment but am taking a break for a while after this totally disappointing takeout meal.

labor day visit. i stopped by on labor day around 6. it wasn't very busy when i came in, but i apparently i was just ahead of a rush! i had a brisket plate with green beans and macaroni and cheese. some of the pieces of brisket were a little bit dry for my taste, but they were all tender enough to almost not need a knife, and incredibly flavorful. the green beans had just the right amount of pepper and bacon, and the mac and cheese, though typical fair, was moist and creamy. the counter person and server were both very friendly and helpful. i'm eager to come back again and try other things!

my favorite bbq joint around - old school, no frills, but great food, good prices, large portions, friendly staff (hey, jonathan!). i take all my visiting family & friends here and they love it too. bfast, lunch, dinner... can't go wrong. haven't had anything here that i wouldn't order again & again!

best bbq in town. also try the managers special beans.

went here for some breakfast tacos and they were amazing. migas are their signature dish, and were done right! will be back next time in town!

love the breakfast, and the bbq is not perfect but texas perfect!!!
