so the place is awesome with lots to do especially for children. definitely bring children here! food menu had the basics. the seafood chowder was actually very tasty but my coffee was a let down. very milky, bit bland. recommend for the grounds and entertainment.

oh wow!  this is pretty special.  a magical garden setting, including tame eels!  menu is tasty and affordable.  this is just a hop and a skip out of nelson but it's also worlds away...

this is a destination restaurant. a bit different but very nice. terrific for family groups. have been here a few times now and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. our party of five were very happy with the food and the service is always excellent. absolutely worth the drive.

very reasonably priced for wholesome food, friendly service and a good variety of menu options. the fantastic garden setting will keep kids entertained for hours: bobbing for apples, feeding eels and more.

great place to take kids. lovely garden an play area for them to explore. feeding tame eels was great fun. food is simple but delicious. highly recommend an outing there.

my partner and i visit the jester house cafe in tasman whenever we are in the area. whilst down from wellington visiting family over christmas we visited twice and were thrilled with the service, the food and the ambience both times - as we are every time we visit.
the first time we went was for breakfast. we went in the morning, knowing how busy the cafe gets at lunch time. my partner had the hashbrown (his favourite) and i had french toast. both meals were totally delicious and reasonably priced. we both also had coffee and they too could not be faulted.
the second time we went was with my partner's sister and her children. we decided not to go right on lunch time so went for a late lunch at 2pm. the cafe was still very busy but that did not detract from the service or our experience. for lunch the men each had burgers, one the pork burger and the other the vege burger, my partner's sister had the quinoa salad, and i tried the nicoise salad. we all agreed that the food was fresh, filling and delicious - and well priced. we also shared a bottle of wine (chosen from the short but local list) that was likewise lovely and well priced. the children (fussy eaters!) shared a kid's plate and a pizza slice and although they were more interested in the playground they enjoyed their lunch as much as we did. after lunch we indulged in cake and coffee, sharing a slice of totally scrumptious apple and blackcurrant shortcake and some rich chocolate brownie - which the little ones adored.
i find it hard to understand how anyone could ever have a bad time at jester house when all we ever experience is good food, good service and a good time.

the most disappointing $150 i have ever spent. the portions were small, the food disappointing and overpriced. i ordered 6 platters for our children at a cost of $51 and all they got was a few cornchips a bit of cheese a biscuit and a chocolate fish. i had to ask for some dip to go with the corn chips and then got charged extra on the bill! all the children were hungry and grumpy which was such a shame as this was meant to be a special family treat. obviously it is all about the environment which is beautiful but the food should be important as well. we will not be recommending this restaurant to familys. ella :[

do try the figs. good for couples, family's or travellers.

worth the drive if your staying in nelson or mot.
great experience to see how life can be lived and what hospitality can really be like.
