not for me, but some may prefer it. on the advice of a few folks, i finally popped into jardin corona, off 183 n in cedar park. it's located in an old shopping center that has only a few small businesses. if you weren't looking for this place, you'd drive right by it.
the restaurant is clean, but small with older furnishings leaving you to think you have landed in a little hole in the wall undiscovered by the rest of suburbia.
the service is great, though hampered by the number of tables they have crammed into this small location and so there is a definite feel of closeness about it.
the food was not what i expected. here is a quick overview of the meal:
salsa--- excellent (perfectly blended with cilantro)
chips--- excellent (warm and lightly salted)
rice--- basic (sticky, with some frozen veg and mild flavor)
refried beans--- basic. (i should have tried the charro.)
enchildadas--- just ok. the chicken had no seasoning. i ordered the blue corn stack with verde sauce (rio grande) and my daughter had the mole enchiladas. i was extremely disappointed in the lack of flavor for both dishes.
if the food had been great the ambiance could be accepted as the quintessential hole in the wall, but i much prefer el patron or mesa rosa.
however--- the place was hopping. the neglected shopping center parking spaces were filled with jardin corona lunch crowd. i think there is a segment of the mexican-food-eating populace that prefers less seasoning to their food. (i am sure my dad would like it.)
and if this is you, give the place a try. it might suit you fine.
but--- if you require a little more kickback to your taste buds, go elsewhere.
