the only ice cream that could give cincinnati's graeter's ice cream a run. dark chocolate zin with an izzy scoop of chai latte was the server's recommendation; it was incredibly good. highly recommend.

serving the twin cities 150+ flavors and continuing to grow the menu since opening in 2000 it was late saturday evening that a stop was made at izzy’s ice cream in saint paul, a queue of fifteen patrons already present even as outside temperatures hovered around 45ᵒf which, at least by minnesota standards, seems like as good a time as any to enjoy a creamy cone or cup.

owned by lara hammel and jeff sommers with a second storefront in minneapolis, their signature “izzy scoop” of a second ping pong portion served atop the primary flavor seemingly predicting an era where everyone snaps a picture of their food, guests entering izzy’s marshall avenue location will immediately note walls lined with photographs flanking a small seating area, some of the store itself and others of guests named izzy or isabelle whose parents’ decision earns them a free scoop.

as focused on the community as each small-batch flavor, initiatives for solar power and sustainability discussed in izzy’s literature, it was after perhaps ten minutes wait that first tastes were taken, a young woman stepping up to do the job of a male colleague too busy flirting with girls offering small spoons including pumpkin, chocolate brownie and more that did not make decisions any easier as all were quite good.

eventually unable to narrow choices down to just two flavors, but not quite crazy enough to opt for a $120 “hot dish” offering all 32 in a custom box to keep, it was with $8.30 exchanged that five izzy scoops were presented in a freshly made waffle cone, the purity of roasted peanuts and local honey both remarkable while salted caramel unfortunately fell short of jeni’s and others in terms of mouthfeel, though the more heterogeneous butter queen coffee and carmelia cookie crunch were both rich but not overly sweet and less susceptible to being judged based solely on texture.

i'm not sure the ice cream is better than sebastian joe's, but the izzy on top is pretty awesome. allows you to taste the flavor that you did not get in your primary scoop. people working the ice cream are extremely helpful and eager. will definitely return.

delicious flavors and lots of options! great service. only go if you enjoy really rich ice cream. it's pretty expensive, but i think it's a great splurge treat!

we just had a birthday party at izzys. the staff did an outstanding job. the kids loved the behind the scenes tour, izzy pop making, brownie decorating and ice cream making. amazing how much they pack into 1.5 hours. they did it all from setup to cleanup. we loved all the flavors of ice cream we tried... and with 10 of us we tried a lot of flavors! lemon custard was my personal favorite. looking forward to our next visit to izzys. i do wish they'd put more chunks in their ice cream. most are smooth ice creams.

best ice cream ever. with everything you order, they give you a free ‘izzy’ scoop on top as well! oh america – the only place where a regular sized ice-cream scoop is called kid size and gigantic mammoth size for adult.

izzy’s is a pleasant ice cream shop, with some good flavors, excellent ice cream, and they offer up a great way to sample their flavors. that’s why it remains a stop on every trip of mine to the twin cities.

used to work at a local copy shop and the izzys owners would come in..with a job that should have gone to a print shop. informed thusly they were complete jerks..insisting that we do the job
.. i dont care how good the ice cream is...will never go..

salted carmel ice cream is fantastic!
it's pricey though. be prepared to pay $20 for a snack for 2.

crazy flavors, crazy good. where else can you go to get guiness beer flavored ice cream? izzy's has some of the strangest ice cream flavors this side of japan, and the funny thing is that they're almost always delicious. so be adventurous! and don't miss out on the salted caramel or graham cracker...
