hula hut

i went here on 4/30/16. i drove from waco just to eat here. it never disappoints. yes, the wait is usually a minimum of 20/30 minutes but it is well worth it. this time, i ordered the open-face tuna tacos and my friend had the roasted chicken pipeline enchiladas. the tuna was well cooked for the most part. the biggest piece wasn't fully cooked as i'm sure the inside was a little raw due to the size. however, i love sushi, so it did not bother me. overall, they were delicious. the chips and salsa were good as well. the salsa is tangy and i'm pretty certain it had cilantro, lime juice and possibly mango. the chips are small and crispy. my friend, who rarely eats chips, loves them! i also tried the hu-la-la while i waited for my food. it reminded me of a version of sex on the beach. yes, it had a kick and i most definitely felt it via a good buzz. our waiter was very attentive to us and super friendly. overall, it was not anything subpar and great as usual.

good food, great location. your family, friends or date will like this place. the food choices are good and the atmosphere/location is fun.

amazing! the food was great. very busy. service was not staffed well enough to deal with the amount of people, but it doesn't matter! the service fits the cozy atmosphere and i would eat here if i had to put my own plates together!

okay. had the fish tacos by recommendation and it was the worst i've ever had. a true fishy taste and over the top hot. rice and beans were excellent. roasted chicken enchilada were good. spicy bloody mary was way over the top. the ceasar salad had a weird dressing taste. the ribs were really good. the austin lemonade was a lot of coconut flavor.

not as good as it used to be. we had the chimichangas and it was a flavorless mess. not really what i remember from years past when the flavors were unique.

service was good and fast. parking was difficult due to light show. arrive before 6:00 to get a spot across the street.

it's a fun place and that's what you come for, not the food. the food was poor, nothing special. we loved the quirky decoration and original theme and our server was great. we wouldn't come back now that we've seen it once though. we did love sitting outside and turtle spotting with the kids.

first time i had the chicken thai bbq fajitas they were good but mostly just interesting. the second time i got the mango poblano chile quesadillas and they were amazing

this place's only saving grace is its location on the water. food is poor and so is the service. just feels dirty to me. they have some drink specials. i'd only recommend this place for its location and grabbing a margarita. parking is limited, but they have a lot across the street.

i really liked the lake view from the deck seating area. i got the tubular taco with shrimp and spinach, which was delicious. i had a good experience, except the kitchen was a slow. it took the waitress 3 of 4 times to finally bring us the creamy-jalapeno ranch dip and it took awhile for our food to come out. besides the slowness, my time at hula hut was good.

the food is ok here, but you don't pay for the food, in my opinion.  this eatery sits right on the waterfront, and it is beautiful.  if you're playing tour guide for friends/family, this is a must visit.  it offers a festive feel, it's like you're somewhere else.  i'm not crazy about the food, but i'll go for a good cocktail and chill time with friends.

i went here for a friend's birthday because he loves this place, but i was greatly disappointed. the servers were friendly, but the food was absolutely nothing special and completely forgettable. the best part to me was the outside area with the heaters above and i love being warm so feeling those radiating heat onto me the entire meal was pretty awesome.

hula hut is always a safe bet for an enjoyable meal in austin!  its covered patio outside is huge and right on the lake, so the view is very pleasant.  i almost always order the stuffed avocado, which you really can't go wrong with.  i would definitely recommend hula hut to anyone looking for a cool austin-y place to go.

great atmosphere and good food. the prices are very fair. they will split the pipeline burrito, making two burritos if you want to share a meal. we love to take the family here while in austin.

not good. average. downhill since the days of chuy's ownership. only saving grace is the location. food isn't close to what it used to be. sorry

horrible experience! as a non-local i've eaten at many austin restaurants with satisfaction but this was ridiculous!
food was decent but the service and management were the worst i've ever seen. waiter had issues trying to run our three separate checks due to some internet issues. the "manager" came over and was incredibly rude to our whole table. no apologies for the inconvenience just a horrible attitude and lame excuses. in the end they had to manually write our credit card numbers on slips so that we could leave. i know waiters/waitresses are snippy on occasion, but for a manger to be that way is inexcusable. not the austin hospitality i know, never going back nor recommending hula hut.
