i have been to hudsons in parkhurst before and i was waiting in anticipation for the pretoria branch to open, so when it did, we couldn't wait to get there.
hudsons had been open for just over a month when we had decided to go, and we were so excited as we had really enjoyed our experience at the parkhurst one (besides the meat being gristly.)
we were the only people at the restaurant when we arrived and the waitresses were immediately by us showing us to a table. i would say we received good service.
we ordered the fried mac and cheese croquettes for starters. i am a huge fan of mac and cheese, specially in ball form and fried. when they arrived they looked really appetising and i couldn't wait to tuck in. i was so disappointed though. the mac and cheese had no flavour and no seasoning. the croquettes came with an accompaniment of aioli, which was very tasty and i had to dunk it in there (a lot) just to add some flavour to it.
for mains i ordered the tribeca trio of sliders and my partner had the wiseguy burger. i ordered the sweet potato fries as a side and my partner had the disco fries.
the sliders looked amazing when they arrived, actually all the food did, eventually when it did arrive, as it took very long. the waitress did apologise and explain that they are still getting the hang of things in the kitchen, which is understandable.
my sliders were ok. the thing that i don't like about hudsons burgers is their pattys. they have no flavour and have a lot of gristle in them. it really isn't nice. the toppings were good though. i ate one slider and took the rest for takeaway. my sweet potato fries were cold and very dry. my partners disco fries were a lot better.
i would like to go back to hudsons despite my disappointment. i would like to try the other things on the menu, and who knows, they might change my mind. i just don't get all the hype about it right now as there are far better burgers being made in pretoria.
