i can not in writing beginn to express how embarrassed i feel. since i have invited the birthday girl and family out on what was supposed to be a surprise celebration. 
but instead, the only surprise that was given to us by hoku's, was the wonder of when the food would stop coming out violently from our bodies.
on 9/16/2019, my family came to dine at hoku's restaurant for a birthday celebration.  
after leaving hoku's, we all got food poisoning. (diarrhea and vomiting).

solid but slightly dated. excellent service, great location, air-conditioned, but slightly dated food. everything is delicious and you should try their fish (sashimi or cooked) but overall their dishes are not innovative or particularly modern.

one of my favorite restaurant on the island! try their lamb. excellent service.

we enjoyed an outstanding dinner at hoku's last evening. the sashimi special appetizer was delectable. we followed it with the wok-fried whole fish. an impressive presentation and a filling dish with a trio of sauces. we ended with 100% kona coffee - the best dessert of all. finally we appreciated the gracious service.

located in the kahala. excellent food and superb service -- jason was great. we split the whole opakapaka, which was a perfect size with about six filets and three dipping sauces. good wine list. made us want to stay the night. classy joint!

by far the best in town. this is the best restaurant on the island or should i say out of all the islands!!! by far!!! the ahi sashimi is one of the best i've tasted at a buffet. they use top grade stuff. i normally don't eat sashimi at buffets because my mouth gets itchy with poor grade fish. but this was the best sashimi i have ever ate at a buffet. eat the sashimi! the hamachi all you can eat you can't go wrong. the view is beautiful! the staff is so friendly and hard working. you get a glass of champagne! they have miso butterfish that is to die for! the crab legs and claws are already cracked and ready to eat!!! this is the best i would recommend and will be going back very soon. by far the absolute best!!!
