this is a nice little indian restaurant in lancaster. it fills to capacity most nights, so definitely call for reservations. we were turned away one night (which lead us to taj mahal that night instead- yum!). so, we went back to the himalayan grill the next day for the lunch buffet. the food was good. it was all either chicken or vegetarian. there was masala and tandoori and biryani, all made with chicken and there was dal and aloo palak, as well as basmati rice, cantaloupe, chutneys, and naan...but the best thing on the buffet was the kheer! wow, i'm not a fan of rice pudding, but this was so good! we had seconds of dessert! of the meat dishes, we both enjoyed the tandoori chicken the most. the masala seemed just above average to me. the dal was a bit bland, but the aloo palak was worth a second little helping. i would go back, but only if the taj mahal was filled to capacity. ;)

who knew there was fabulous indian food smack dab in the middle of amish country? this restaurant received high ratings on tripadvisor and we decided to give it a try. glad we did. of note, it's fairly small so i would definitely recommend a reservation. it's a byob with no corkage fee. the menu catered to every palate preference. my lamb vindaloo was fork tender and spiced according to my preference. dinner for two was around $35.00. i can honestly say this was one of the best indian meals i have ever had.

i have been told i should try himalayan curry and grill for some time, and i was finally able to go for dinner with a large group. i have eaten plenty of indian food, but never nepalese, so i was excited to have something new. we ordered a bunch of appetizers, all of which were tasty. the lasoni mushrooms were especially good. simply sauteed with ginger, tomato, garlic and spices, the mushrooms were tender and packed with flavor. for my entree i went with a traditional "home style" nepalese dish, khasi ko masu, which consisted of cubed goat in a curried gravy. i typically love goat, however, i was really disappointed with this one. the quality of goat seemed really subpar. it was untrimmed and crunchy with gristle, and dry, making it very difficult to eat. fortunately, i was able to try some other entrees around the table and they were all very delicious. for dessert, i had one of my all time favorites: rasmalai, which consists of cheese patties cooked in milk syrup.  the patties and milk sauce were fresh, delicate and made for a perfect ending to the meal. the servers were very friendly and helpful with the menu, though i did feel like we were a bit rushed at the end, with some of the servers pulling dishes without asking if we were finished. i will most likely be back to himalayan to sample more of their extensive menu.

a friend and i have been to himalayan two times now, and both times, our food has been fantastic. we started out with the vegetable momo (dumplings), and i did not want the appetizer portion of our meal to end. they were that good. i then had the navaratan korma (vegetables in a creamy cashew sauce), and it was also delicious. this restaurant is a tiny little place on e. orange, so the place gets packed, and no wonder, because they also offer a lunch buffet. we love it, and will go back often!

we had a wonderful meal at himalayan curry this evening. we began with an nepali appetizer that had shredded chicken and a wonderful spicy soy bean salad with cucumbers. my wife enjoyed the curry with shrimp and i had the lamb vandaloo, both dishes were rich and complex with fantastic flavors. i have never given a place a perfect 5, but this place was simply fantastic.

bhuna goat. one of my favorite dishes! true comfort food. the goat doesn't even touch the gamy end of the taste spectrum and the thick sauce is almost a gravy. the sauce is lighter tasting than it looks and the flavor of the goat still comes through. this isn't delicious because they hid the goat flavor with a strong sauce. it all works together and it's one of my go-to dishes whenever we go here.

chicken tikka masala. pretty much standard tikka masala. not what i consider true indian food but tasty enough to satisfy the less adventurous members of your party.

-----16 aug, 2014-----

naan bread. house made naan, just the way it should be. made fresh on the premises with the wonderful mixture of textures that make for a good naan. if your dish doesn’t come with naan, order a side of it anyway to mop up all the great sauces or to cool out your pallette after some of the spicier dishes.

rice pudding. i love finishing my meal with this incredible rice pudding. with a hint of cardamom, it's better than any of the pa dutch or amish versions you will find in the area.

not typical indian food!. with most of their dishes hailing from northern india and tibet, this is not your typical indian food. don't worry, you beginners can still get chicken tikka masala, but i encourage you to explore other options. the bhuna goat is tender and delicious without a hint of gaminess. the spices are the stars as in most indian food but lighter without losing flavor. my wife is constantly asking for us to go for the lunch buffet. their fresh homemade naan is out of this world and essential for mopping up the delicious sauces at the bottom of the bowl or plate. if you like indiana food you will love this tibetan fare.

check your take out order!!!. ordered two chicken entrées by phone. the order was repeated back for verification. picked up the order and came home to find it only contained one order. would not answer my phone call until i used a different phone than the one i originally ordered from. when i informed them i only received one order they asked if i was sure there wasn't two. can i not count to two??? after being passed from person to person on the phone, i was told if i wanted the rest of my order it would be ready if i came back. i went back and picked it up. when it was all said and done i still only received rice for one order, and the what they originally gave me turned out to be vegetarian instead of chicken like i ordered and paid for. the food was ok, but they need to learn customer service and how to process orders. and you can add at least $1-2 for everything on the 2013 menu posted.

we ordered veg momos and told them we are allergic yo chicken. they gave us chicken momos. luckily my father dint have the first bite or he would be dead. i called five minutes later to place an order of veg momos and the woman was immensly rude and said they need atleast half an hour. she was extreamly rude and started screaming on the phone. terrible service. too stingy to hire more staff to avoid confusion and clearly dont respect allergies.

my new fave. himalayan curry and grill is the best indian cuisine i have ever had in lancaster. it beats tulsi and taj. it stands up to indian foods i have enjoyed in cape town's cape malay homes, even. i am telling you that i will visit himalayan again and again as long as i live in this beautiful city. the food was outstanding. the only downfall they have is their size, and the service alone makes up for it. my glass never goes empty, the waitresses are sweet, and the atmosphere makes you feel welcome. you might want to call ahead for a reservation, this will help with the beating crowds (and a wait) at the door.you will never be disappointed with himalayan curry and grill.
