hillhead bookclub. decided to try this place at the last minute when walking up byres road heading for somewhere else. was a bit worried if they would let kids in as had heard it was a pretty cool place and very busy with slightly younger trendier people than me! needn't have worried though as the large blackboard outside said "bookclub loves kids!". was quite impressed on walking in, they have a small pavement terrace and also a small area with nice benches just off from the doorway to escape from it all and have a wee chat i would imagine. the main area is really stylishly done out, and i loved the 2 cages, one holding a ping pong table and the other what looked like old segas to play retro games on, but didn't go up for a closer look. we sat on a quieter area halfway up the stairs which was nice as you could look up and see what was happening on the mezzanine level or you could look down at the ground floor level. the lunch menu was nice and very reasonably priced, our whole bill came to just over £40 which included 4 mains and 2 rounds of drinks. i had a smoked mackerel salad which was very nice and tasty, also ordered a side of chips which were lovely and chunky! everyone else in my group enjoyed their food as well, there was a nice chilled out atmosphere and the staff serving were all really sweet. would definetley go back, would like to try it at night time next, without baby!
